2. Setup Guide

2.1. Unpacking and Initial Inspection

Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Verify that all items listed in the product bundle are present. Inspect the camera body and accessories for any signs of damage.

2.2. Battery Installation and Charging

  1. Insert the Nikon EN-EL18c Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery into the MH-26aAK charger.
  2. Connect the charger to a power outlet. The charging indicator will show the charging status. Charge the battery fully before first use.
  3. Once charged, open the battery chamber cover on the bottom of the camera body and insert the battery, ensuring it clicks into place.

2.3. Memory Card Insertion

The Nikon D6 uses XQD memory cards. Locate the memory card slot cover on the side of the camera. Open the cover and gently insert the Sony 120GB G Series XQD Memory Card until it locks into place. Close the cover securely.

2.4. Attaching the Strap and Body Cap

Attach the AN-DC22 strap to the camera's strap lugs for secure handling. Ensure the BF-1B Body Cap is on the lens mount when a lens is not attached to protect the sensor from dust.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1. Powering On and Basic Settings

To power on the camera, rotate the power switch located around the shutter release button. The camera's rear LCD monitor will activate. Use the menu system to set the date, time, and language during initial setup.

3.2. Shooting Modes and Exposure Control

The D6 offers various shooting modes including Program (P), Aperture Priority (A), Shutter Priority (S), and Manual (M). These can be selected via the mode dial or menu. Exposure control is managed through settings like ISO sensitivity (100-102400 native, expandable to 3280000), aperture, and shutter speed.

3.3. Autofocus System

The Multi-CAM 37K autofocus system features 105 cross-type points. Select your desired AF-area mode (e.g., Single-point AF, Dynamic-area AF, Group-area AF) based on your subject and shooting scenario. The camera supports continuous-servo AF (AF-C) for tracking moving subjects.

3.4. Video Recording

To record video, switch to Live View mode and select the movie recording option. The D6 supports UHD 4K video recording at 30 fps. Ensure sufficient memory card space for video files.

3.5. Connectivity (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS)

The D6 features built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for wireless image transfer to smart devices using the Nikon SnapBridge app. GPS functionality allows for geotagging images with location data.

When storing the camera for long periods, remove the battery and memory card. Store the camera in a dry, dust-free environment, ideally in the included camera bag, to protect it from moisture and impact.
