3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

To install the battery:

  1. Ensure the radio is powered off.
  2. Locate the battery cover on the back of the radio.
  3. Slide the battery cover latch to unlock and remove the cover.
  4. Insert the 1500mAh Lithium-Ion battery into the compartment, ensuring the contacts align.
  5. Replace the battery cover and slide the latch to lock it securely.

3.2 Charging the Battery

The Retevis RB27B offers two convenient charging methods:

  • USB-C Direct Charging: Connect a standard USB-C cable to the port at the bottom of the radio. This allows charging from various sources like power banks, car chargers, or laptops.
  • Desktop Charger: Place the radio into the provided desktop charging base. Connect the USB cable from the charging base to a USB-A power adapter or port.

The charging indicator light will show the charging status. A full charge typically takes approximately 3-4 hours.

3.3 Attaching the Belt Clip and Lanyard

To attach the belt clip, align it with the grooves on the back of the radio and slide it down until it clicks into place. To attach the lanyard, thread it through the designated loop at the top of the radio.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Power On/Off and Volume Control

To power on the radio, rotate the Power/Volume Control knob clockwise. To power off, rotate it counter-clockwise until it clicks. Adjust the volume by rotating the same knob.

4.2 Channel Selection

Use the Channel +/- buttons to select your desired communication channel. The current channel number will be displayed on the LCD screen.

4.3 FM Radio Function

The RB27B includes an FM radio function for entertainment or news. To activate:

  1. Press the SCAN button (music note icon) once. The display will show "FM" and the current frequency.
  2. Use the Channel +/- buttons to tune to different FM stations.
  3. Press the SCAN button again to exit FM radio mode.

4.4 NOAA Weather Channel

Stay informed about weather conditions with the built-in NOAA weather channels. To access:

  1. Press the MON button (cloud icon) once. The display will show "WEATHER CH".
  2. Use the Channel +/- buttons to cycle through the available NOAA weather channels.
  3. Press the MON button again to exit NOAA weather mode.

4.5 Flashlight and Alarm

The radio is equipped with an LED flashlight and an emergency alarm function:

  • Flashlight: Press the Lamp/Emergency Alarm button once to turn on the flashlight. Press it again for a flashing light mode. Press a third time to turn it off.
  • Emergency Alarm: Long press the Lamp/Emergency Alarm button to activate the emergency alarm. Press it again to deactivate.

4.6 Keypad Lock

To prevent accidental changes to settings, you can lock the keypad. Press and hold the MENU button (house icon) to lock or unlock the keypad.

4.7 Voice Prompts

The radio provides voice prompts for various functions. These can be enabled or disabled through the menu settings.

4.8 Scan Function

The scan function allows the radio to automatically search for active channels. Press the SCAN button (music note icon) to initiate scanning. Press it again to stop.

4.9 Dual Watch

The dual watch feature allows you to monitor two channels simultaneously. Activate this feature through the menu settings.

4.10 Call Tone

The radio supports 10 different call tones. These can be selected and customized via the menu.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the radio's exterior. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Battery Care: To prolong battery life, avoid overcharging and fully discharging the battery regularly. Store the radio and battery in a cool, dry place when not in use for extended periods.
