Setup
The RE330 offers two primary methods for setup: using the WPS button for quick connection or via the TP-Link Tether app for more detailed configuration.
Method 1: Using the WPS Button (Recommended for quick setup)
Power On: Plug the RE330 into an electrical outlet near your main router. Wait for the Power LED to turn solid blue.
Press WPS on Router: Press the WPS button on your main router. Refer to your router's manual if you cannot locate it.
Press WPS on RE330: Within two minutes, press the WPS button on the side of your RE330. The Signal LED on the RE330 should start blinking.

Operating the RE330
Dual-Band Operation
The RE330 operates on dual bands (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) to transmit Wi-Fi signals, effectively doubling the performance of a single-band extender. Both the 2.4 GHz (up to 300 Mbps) and 5 GHz (up to 867 Mbps) bands allow you to connect multiple devices simultaneously. Use the 2.4 GHz band for general browsing and email, and the 5 GHz band for high-bandwidth activities like gaming and HD streaming.

The RE330 also features Adaptive Path Selection, which automatically chooses the fastest connection path to the router, ensuring optimal performance for all connected devices.

Access Point Mode
In addition to extending Wi-Fi, the RE330 can function as an Access Point (AP). Simply plug an Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on the RE330, and it will transform your wired internet connection into a dual-band 2x2 MIMO wireless access point. This is ideal for creating a new Wi-Fi network in a room with existing Ethernet wiring.
Intelligent Signal Indicator
The intelligent signal indicator on the RE330 helps you find the best location for your range extender. It shows the signal strength received from your existing router at a glance:
- Solid Blue: Good connection.
- Solid Red: Too far from the router or poor signal. Relocate the extender closer to the router.
- Off: No connection.
Maintenance
To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your TP-Link RE330, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Placement: Place the extender in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and excessive moisture.
- Cleaning: Gently wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
- Firmware Updates: Regularly check for and install firmware updates via the TP-Link Tether app or the web management interface. Firmware updates can improve performance, add new features, and enhance security.
- Avoid Obstructions: Position the extender away from large metal objects, thick walls, and other electronic devices that may cause interference.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your RE330, try the following troubleshooting steps:
No Internet Access After Setup
- Check Signal LED: Ensure the Signal LED on the RE330 is solid blue. If it's red or off, relocate the extender closer to your router.
- Verify Router Connection: Ensure your main router is working correctly and has internet access.
- Reboot Devices: Reboot your router and the RE330.
- Reconfigure: Try reconfiguring the RE330 using either the WPS button or the Tether app.
Poor Signal Strength or Slow Speeds
- Relocate Extender: Move the RE330 to a location that is roughly halfway between your router and the area needing coverage. The intelligent signal indicator will help you find the optimal spot.
- Minimize Interference: Keep the extender away from other electronic devices (microwaves, cordless phones, Bluetooth devices) and large metal objects.
- Update Firmware: Ensure your RE330 has the latest firmware installed.
- Check Router Settings: Ensure your router's Wi-Fi channels are not congested. You might try changing the Wi-Fi channel on your router.
Cannot Connect to the Extender's Wi-Fi Network
- Check Power: Ensure the RE330 is powered on.
- Correct Network Name: Verify you are connecting to the correct extended network name (usually your original network name with "_EXT" appended, or a custom name if configured via Tether app).
- Password: Ensure you are entering the correct Wi-Fi password. It is usually the same as your main router's password unless changed during setup.
- Reset Extender: If all else fails, perform a factory reset on the RE330 by pressing and holding the Reset button (located near the WPS button) for about 5 seconds until all LEDs flash. Then, reconfigure the extender from scratch.
