This manual provides detailed instructions for the safe and effective use of the Xhorse VVDI PROG Programmer. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the device to ensure proper functionality and to prevent damage.

2. Safety Information

  • Always ensure the device is powered off before connecting or disconnecting any cables or components.
  • Use only the cables and adapters provided with the VVDI PROG Programmer.

4. Setup

4.1 Device Connection

  1. Connect the VVDI PROG Device to your computer using the provided USB Type-B Cable. The device can be powered via the USB cable. The software will indicate if an external USB power supply is required.
  2. Ensure all connections are secure and correctly aligned before powering on.

4.2 Software Installation and Update

The VVDI PROG software is designed for frequent online updates. To obtain and update the software:

  1. Download the latest VVDI PROG software from the official Xhorse website. The software supports multiple languages including English, Arabic, Czech, French, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, and Chinese.
  2. Install the software on your computer following the on-screen instructions.
  3. Important: Do not click "firmware upgrade" within the VVDI Prog software. The device's firmware is consistently version 2.0 and does not require user updates. Attempting to upgrade the firmware may result in a communication server error.
  4. For software updates, use the designated "Software Link" options within the VVDIProg Update interface, as shown in Figure 4.2.

5. Operating Instructions

The VVDI PROG Programmer is designed to read and write data for a wide range of chips. Always refer to the connection diagrams provided within the VVDIProg software for specific chip operations.

5.1 Supported Chip Types and Functions

  • EEPROM Chips: Supports reading and writing for most EEPROM chips.
  • MCU Series: Includes MC9S08 series, MC68HC(9)12 series, MC9S12 series, V850 series, H8X series, R8C series, and PCF79XX series.
  • ECU Programming: Supports reading and writing for N20 and N55 ECUs, with direct ISN display.
  • MC9S12XE Series: Provides stable reading and writing for chips such as 5M48H, 1N35H, 2M53J, and 3M25J.
  • PCF79XX Remote Renewal: Supports renewing PCF79XX remotes, specifically E/F series. Note that the PCF79XX adapter is optional and may need to be purchased separately.

5.2 General Operation Steps

  1. Select Chip Type: In the VVDIProg software, select the specific chip type you intend to work with.
  2. Refer to Connection Diagram: The software provides detailed connection diagrams for each chip. Crucially, ensure your wiring matches the diagram 100%. Do not lengthen connection lines with other parts, as this can lead to read/write failures.
  3. Connect Chip: Connect the chip to the VVDI PROG device using the appropriate adapter and cables as per the diagram. For example, the EEPROM adapter (Figure 5.1) or specific reflash cables.
  4. Perform Operation: Use the software functions to read, write, verify data, or check for blank status. The device also supports data file comparison.

6. Maintenance

  • Keep the device and its accessories clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
  • Store the VVDI PROG Programmer in a cool, dry place when not in use.
  • Regularly check cables for any signs of wear or damage. Replace damaged cables immediately.

7. Troubleshooting
