3.2 Camera Installation and Connection

The cameras are Power over Ethernet (POE), meaning they receive both power and video data through a single Ethernet cable. This simplifies installation.

  1. Plan Camera Placement: Identify optimal locations for each camera, considering coverage area, power access (if not using POE switch), and cable routing. The cameras are designed for indoor/outdoor use and are weather-resistant.
  2. Mount Cameras: Securely mount each camera using the provided screws and anchors. Adjust the camera angle for desired viewing.
  3. Connect Cameras: Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the camera's Ethernet port and the other end to one of the NVR's POE ports. The NVR will automatically power the cameras and establish a connection.

4. Operation

4.1 Accessing the System

You can access your security system locally via the NVR's connected monitor or remotely using the Lorex Home mobile application.

  • Local Access: Use the USB mouse to navigate the NVR's interface on the connected monitor.
  • Remote Access: Download the Lorex Home app from your device's app store. Follow the in-app instructions to add your NVR. Note that while the app can be installed on multiple devices, simultaneous active viewing may be limited to one device at a time, requiring re-authorization for each switch.

4.2 Video Monitoring and Recording

The system continuously records video to the 3TB hard drive. You can view live feeds, review recorded footage, and configure recording schedules through the NVR interface or the mobile app.

4.3 Smart Motion Detection Features

The cameras are equipped with advanced Smart Motion Detection Plus, which can differentiate between various types of movement.

  • Person and Vehicle Detection: The system can identify and alert you specifically when a person or vehicle enters the camera's field of view, reducing false alarms from other movements.
  • Face Detection: Certain camera models may offer face detection capabilities for enhanced monitoring.

4.4 Active Deterrence Features

Each camera includes active deterrence features to warn off intruders.

  • Motion-Activated LED Warning Light: When motion is detected, a bright LED light can be activated to deter unwanted visitors.
  • Remote-Triggered Siren: A built-in siren can be activated remotely via the app or automatically upon detection to further deter potential threats.

4.5 Night Vision Modes

The cameras provide clear surveillance even in low-light conditions.

  • Color Night Vision: In ambient light conditions, the cameras can capture full-color video.
  • IR Night Vision: In complete darkness, infrared (IR) LEDs provide crisp black and white video up to 150 feet.

4.8 Playback and Review

The NVR's interface and the Lorex Home app provide intuitive tools for reviewing recorded footage. You can search by time, date, or motion event. The app offers a convenient feature to play back short clips of detected motion events.

5. Maintenance

5.1 General Care

  • Keep the NVR in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating.
  • Regularly clean camera lenses with a soft, damp cloth to ensure clear image quality.
  • Ensure all cable connections are secure and free from damage.

5.2 Hard Drive Management

The 3TB hard drive provides ample storage for continuous recording. The NVR is configured to overwrite the oldest footage automatically once the hard drive is full. You can back up important footage to an external USB drive if needed.

6. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your Lorex security system.

  • No App Notifications: If you are not receiving notifications, try unregistering and re-registering all cameras within the Lorex Home app. Ensure app permissions for notifications are enabled on your mobile device.
  • False Motion Detections: Smart motion detection can sometimes trigger on non-human/vehicle movements (e.g., trees, pets). Adjust the sensitivity and threshold settings for each camera in the NVR's configuration menu. Lowering sensitivity (e.g., to 15, from a recommended 30-70) and adjusting the threshold (e.g., to 70, from a recommended 10-50) may help.
  • Area Selection Ignored: If defined motion detection areas appear to be ignored, this may indicate a software issue. Ensure your NVR firmware is up to date. If the problem persists, contact Lorex customer support.
  • NVR Fan Noise: The NVR may produce noticeable fan noise. Consider placing the NVR in a location where noise is not a concern, ensuring adequate airflow around the unit to prevent overheating.
  • Remote Access Limitations: While the Lorex Home app can be installed on multiple smart devices, simultaneous active viewing might be limited to one device. You may need to re-authorize devices when switching. Multiple viewers can typically be used on a computer with Windows or similar operating systems.
  • HDMI Output Issue: If the NVR's HDMI output is not functioning, try using a VGA cable if available. Verify monitor input settings.
