NETGEAR Nighthawk Tri-Band Whole Home Mesh WiFi 6 Add-on Satellite (MS80) Instruction Manual
Model: MS80-100NAS
1. Introduction
The NETGEAR Nighthawk MS80 Tri-Band Whole Home Mesh WiFi 6 Add-on Satellite is designed to expand the coverage of your existing Nighthawk Tri-band Mesh WiFi 6 System. This satellite utilizes next-generation 802.11ax (WiFi 6) and tri-band technology to provide super-fast and reliable WiFi for 4K UHD streaming, lag-free gaming, and general internet use. It helps eliminate WiFi dead zones by extending your network coverage.
Each MS80 satellite adds up to 2,250 sq. ft. of coverage and supports speeds up to 3.6Gbps. The system allows for seamless movement throughout your home with a single WiFi network name, ensuring continuous connectivity.
2. Setup
The Nighthawk MS80 Add-on Satellite is compatible with Nighthawk Tri-band Mesh WiFi 6 Systems (MK82, MK83). It is not compatible with Orbi Mesh WiFi Systems or Nighthawk Dual-Band Mesh WiFi 6 Systems (MK62, MK63).
2.1. Initial Placement
Place the add-on satellite in an area where your existing Nighthawk Mesh WiFi System's signal is still strong, but closer to the area where you need extended coverage. Avoid placing it near large metal objects, concrete walls, or other devices that may cause interference.

Once successfully set up, the Nighthawk MS80 satellite seamlessly integrates into your existing mesh WiFi network. It operates under a single WiFi name, allowing your devices to automatically connect to the strongest signal as you move around your home, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity.
The satellite extends AX3600 Tri-Band WiFi, providing up to 3.6Gbps speeds for demanding applications like 4K UHD streaming and online gaming. Its primary function is to expand your WiFi coverage, effectively eliminating dead zones and providing a strong, reliable signal throughout your property.
4. Maintenance
To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your Nighthawk MS80 satellite, consider the following maintenance tips:
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the exterior of the satellite with a soft, dry cloth. Dust accumulation can affect performance and aesthetics.
- Ventilation: Ensure the satellite is placed in a location with adequate airflow to prevent overheating. Do not cover ventilation openings.
- Firmware Updates: Regularly check for and install firmware updates through the Nighthawk App or NETGEAR's official website. Updates often include performance improvements and security enhancements.
- Restarting: If you experience connectivity issues, a simple restart of the satellite (and potentially your main router) can often resolve minor problems.
5. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Nighthawk MS80 satellite, try the following steps:
- No Internet Connection:
- Check the LED indicator on the satellite. If it's not solid blue, refer to the setup section.
- Ensure your main Nighthawk router has an active internet connection.
- Restart both the satellite and the main router.
- Weak Signal or Dead Zones Persist:
- Relocate the satellite closer to your main router or to a more central location within the desired coverage area.
- Ensure there are no major obstructions (e.g., thick walls, large appliances) between the satellite and your devices or the main router.
- Devices Disconnecting:
- Verify that the satellite's firmware is up to date.
- Check for potential interference from other electronic devices.
- If using wired connections, ensure Ethernet cables are securely plugged in.
- Nighthawk App Issues:
- Ensure your mobile device is connected to the Nighthawk WiFi network.
- Update the Nighthawk App to the latest version.
- Try reinstalling the app if problems persist.
