1.4 Filling the Reservoir
Lift the reservoir lid and fill the reservoir with lukewarm water. You may also add a small amount of mouthwash to the water. Ensure the reservoir is securely placed back on the base before use.
2. Operating Instructions
2.1 First-Time Use (Priming the Unit)
For first-time use, or if the unit has not been used for an extended period, prime the unit. Fill the reservoir with water. Point the flossing handle into the sink. Turn the unit ON by sliding the ON/OFF switch on the handle to the 'ON' position. Set the pressure control dial to the highest setting (10). Allow water to flow until it is consistent. Then, turn the unit OFF.
2.2 Daily Use
- Fill the reservoir with lukewarm water.
- Insert the flossing tip into your mouth, aiming the tip at the gumline at a 90-degree angle.
- Slide the ON/OFF switch on the handle to the 'ON' position.
- Adjust the pressure setting using the dial on the unit. Start with the lowest setting and gradually increase to a comfortable pressure.
- Lean over the sink and close your lips slightly to prevent splashing, while still allowing water to flow into the sink.
- Guide the tip along the gumline, pausing briefly between teeth.
- The built-in timer/pacer will pause briefly at 30 seconds and 1 minute to help you track flossing time. Continue until the reservoir is empty or you have cleaned all areas.
- When finished, slide the ON/OFF switch on the handle to the 'OFF' position.

3. Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular cleaning helps maintain the performance and longevity of your Waterpik ION Professional Water Flosser.
3.1 Cleaning the Reservoir
The reservoir is top-rack dishwasher safe. For manual cleaning, remove the reservoir from the base and wash with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly.
3.2 Cleaning the Handle and Tips
To clean the flossing handle and tips, wipe them with a soft cloth and mild, non-abrasive cleaner. For the handle's ON/OFF switch, if it becomes stiff, soak the handle monthly in hot water for at least 30 minutes to loosen any mineral buildup, especially if using mouthwash in the reservoir.
3.3 Descaling the Unit
To prevent mineral deposits, descale the unit every 1-3 months. Fill the reservoir with a 2:1 ratio of warm water and distilled white vinegar. Run the solution through the unit until the reservoir is empty. Rinse by running a full reservoir of clean water through the unit.
3.4 Battery Care
To maximize battery life, avoid completely draining the battery before recharging. Charge the unit fully when the battery indicator shows low power. Ensure charging contacts are clean and dry before connecting the charger.
