2. Important Safety Information

4. Installation Instructions

Professional installation is recommended if you are not familiar with electrical wiring.

4.1. Tools Required (Not Included)

  • Phillips Head Screwdriver
  • Flathead Screwdriver
  • Wire Strippers
  • Electrical Tape
  • Pliers

4.2. Pre-Installation

  1. Turn off power: Locate the circuit breaker or fuse box controlling the power to the desired installation location and turn it off.
  2. Prepare the mounting surface: Ensure the electrical box is securely mounted and capable of supporting the fixture's weight.
  3. Unpack: Carefully remove all contents from the packaging.

4.3. Mounting the Fixture

  1. Attach the mounting backplate to the electrical box using the provided mounting screws. Ensure the backplate is level and secure.
  2. Feed the electrical wires from the electrical box through the center hole of the mounting backplate.

4.4. Wiring Connections

Connect the fixture's wires to the electrical box wires using the provided wire connectors:

  • Connect the black wire from the fixture to the black (hot) wire from the electrical box.
  • Connect the white wire from the fixture to the white (neutral) wire from the electrical box.
  • Connect the green or bare copper ground wire from the fixture to the green or bare copper ground wire from the electrical box. If no ground wire is present in the electrical box, attach the fixture's ground wire to the green grounding screw on the mounting backplate.
  • Ensure all connections are secure. Wrap electrical tape around each wire connector for added safety.

4.5. Final Assembly

  1. Carefully tuck all wires into the electrical box.
  2. Align the fixture with the mounting backplate and secure it using the provided screws.
  3. Install one E26 medium base bulb (not included) into the socket. Do not exceed 60 watts.
  4. Restore power: Turn the power back on at the circuit breaker or fuse box.
  5. Test the fixture to ensure it functions correctly.

5. Operating Instructions

The Elk Home Thane Outdoor Sconce is operated via a standard wall switch. If connected to a compatible dimmer switch, the light output can be adjusted.

  • Turning On/Off: Use the wall switch connected to the fixture to turn the light on or off.
  • Dimming (Optional): If a dimmable bulb and a compatible dimmer switch are installed, adjust the dimmer switch to control the brightness level.
