5. Setup and Installation
Follow these steps carefully to install your ASRock H370M-HDV motherboard and its components.
5.1. Prepare the Motherboard
- Unpack the motherboard from its anti-static bag. Handle the board by its edges to avoid static discharge.
- Place the motherboard on a non-conductive, flat surface.
5.2. Install the CPU
- Locate the LGA1151 CPU socket. Lift the load lever and open the CPU socket cover.
- Carefully align the CPU with the socket, ensuring the golden triangle on the CPU matches the triangle on the socket.
- Gently place the CPU into the socket. Do not force it.
- Close the socket cover and push the load lever back into place until it clicks.
5.3. Install the CPU Cooler
- Apply a thin, even layer of thermal paste to the top of the CPU (if not pre-applied on the cooler).
- Mount the CPU cooler according to its manufacturer's instructions, ensuring it is securely fastened.
- Connect the CPU cooler fan cable to the 'CPU_FAN1' header on the motherboard.
5.4. Install Memory (RAM)
- Open the clips on both ends of the DDR4 DIMM slots.
- Align the notch on the RAM module with the key in the DIMM slot.
- Press down firmly on both ends of the RAM module until the clips snap into place.
- For dual-channel performance, install modules in matching slots (refer to the motherboard's silkscreen for recommended pairing).
5.5. Install the I/O Shield
- Before installing the motherboard into the PC case, snap the I/O shield into the rear opening of the case. Ensure it is securely seated.
5.6. Install the Motherboard into the Case
- Align the motherboard with the standoffs in your PC case.
- Secure the motherboard with screws, ensuring not to overtighten.
5.7. Connect Storage Devices
- Connect SATA data cables from your storage drives (HDDs/SSDs) to the SATA3 ports on the motherboard.
- Connect the corresponding power cables from your power supply to the storage drives.
5.8. Connect Power Supply
- Connect the 24-pin ATX power connector from your power supply to the main power socket on the motherboard.
- Connect the 8-pin (or 4-pin) CPU power connector to the ATX 12V power socket near the CPU.
5.9. Install Expansion Cards
- For a graphics card, insert it into the PCI Express 3.0 x16 slot (PCIE2) until it clicks. Secure it with a screw to the case.
- Connect any necessary PCIe power cables from your power supply to the graphics card.
- Install other expansion cards (e.g., Wi-Fi card) into the PCI Express 3.0 x1 slot as needed.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1. First Boot
After completing all hardware installations, connect your monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Power on your system. The system should perform a Power-On Self-Test (POST).
6.2. Accessing BIOS/UEFI Setup
To enter the BIOS/UEFI setup utility, press the Delete or F2 key repeatedly during the POST process. Here you can configure system settings, boot order, and monitor hardware status.
6.3. Operating System Installation
Once in the BIOS/UEFI, set your preferred boot device (e.g., USB drive with OS installer) and proceed with the operating system installation. Ensure all necessary drivers are installed after the OS is set up, which can be found on the ASRock support website or via the ASRock Live Update & APP Shop.
7. Maintenance
7.1. Cleaning
Regularly clean your PC's interior to prevent dust buildup, which can lead to overheating. Use compressed air to remove dust from fans, heatsinks, and motherboard components. Ensure the system is powered off and unplugged before cleaning.
7.2. BIOS/UEFI Updates
Periodically check the ASRock website or use the ASRock Live Update & APP Shop for the latest BIOS/UEFI updates. Updates can improve system stability, add support for new hardware, or fix bugs. Follow the update instructions provided by ASRock carefully to avoid system damage.
8. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues, refer to these common troubleshooting steps:
- No Power: Ensure all power cables (24-pin ATX, 8-pin CPU, GPU PCIe power) are securely connected. Check the power supply switch and wall outlet.
- No Display: Verify the monitor is connected to the correct video output (either motherboard's integrated graphics or discrete GPU). Reseat the graphics card and RAM modules.
- System Not Booting/POST Errors: Listen for beep codes (if your case has a speaker) or check for diagnostic LEDs on the motherboard (if available). Reseat RAM, CPU, and expansion cards.
- Peripheral Issues: Ensure USB devices are connected to functional ports. Try different ports or devices to isolate the problem.
- Operating System Problems: If the OS is not loading, try booting into safe mode or using recovery options.
