4. Setup Instructions

Follow these steps for proper installation of your WatchDog NXT60 dehumidifier:

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the dehumidifier from its packaging. Inspect the unit for any shipping damage. Report any damage to your supplier immediately.
  2. Placement: Position the dehumidifier on a level, stable surface in the desired location within your crawlspace or basement. Ensure there is at least 1 foot (30 cm) of clearance around all sides of the unit for adequate airflow.
  3. Drainage Connection: The NXT60 drains by gravity. Connect a 1/2 inch (12 mm) inner diameter drain hose (not included) to the drain pipe connection on the unit. Ensure the hose slopes continuously downwards to a suitable drain point (e.g., floor drain, sump pump, or outside). Avoid kinks or loops in the hose that could impede water flow.
  4. Electrical Connection: Plug the 10-foot power cord into a grounded 115V/60Hz electrical outlet. Ensure the outlet is dedicated and properly rated for the dehumidifier's power requirements.
  5. Optional Ducting (if applicable): If using optional ducting kits (10" collar for supply and return), attach them to the designated ports on the unit. Ensure all connections are sealed to prevent air leaks.
  6. Initial Power On: Once all connections are secure, power on the unit. The dehumidifier will typically default to a standard operating mode.

5. Operating Instructions

Control Panel

The WatchDog NXT60 features a user-friendly digital display and control buttons:

Setting Desired Humidity

  1. Press the Power button to turn on the dehumidifier.
  2. Use the Up or Down arrow buttons to set your desired humidity level. The recommended humidity range for most crawlspaces is between 50% and 60% relative humidity.
  3. The unit will automatically operate to maintain the set humidity level. It will cycle on and off as needed.

Auto-Restart Function

In the event of a power outage, the WatchDog NXT60 is equipped with an auto-restart function. Once power is restored, the unit will automatically resume operation with the last settings used before the power interruption.

Electronic Defrost

The unit features an electronic defrost system that automatically activates when frost builds up on the evaporator coils. During defrost, the compressor will temporarily shut off, and the fan will continue to run to melt the frost. This ensures efficient operation in low-temperature environments (down to 33°F).

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the efficient and long-term operation of your dehumidifier.

Filter Cleaning/Replacement (MERV 10)

The air filter should be checked and cleaned regularly, ideally every 3-6 months, or more frequently depending on the environment. A dirty filter restricts airflow and reduces the unit's efficiency.

  1. Unplug the dehumidifier from the power outlet.
  2. Locate the filter access panel (typically on the side or front).
  3. Remove the MERV 10 filter.
  4. Clean the filter by vacuuming or rinsing it with warm water. If rinsing, ensure the filter is completely dry before reinserting.
  5. Replace the filter if it is damaged or excessively dirty.
  6. Reinsert the clean/new filter and close the access panel.

Unit Cleaning

Periodically wipe down the exterior of the dehumidifier with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure no water enters the electrical components.

Drainage System Check

Regularly inspect the drain hose for any kinks, blockages, or signs of algae growth. Ensure the hose maintains a continuous downward slope to prevent water backup. Clean the drain hose if necessary.
