Key features include:

  • Ultra-precise clip-on strobe tuner with ±0.02 cent accuracy.
  • Lightning-fast chromatic tuning mode for quick on-stage tune-ups.
  • Super-bright 108-LED matrix display for high accuracy in all viewing conditions.
  • Adaptive screen that automatically switches orientation for left- and right-hand viewing.
  • Reference pitch selection for total tuning flexibility.

Setup

Follow these steps to set up your UNITUNE CLIP NOIR tuner:

  1. Unboxing: Carefully remove the tuner from its packaging. Ensure all components are present.
  2. Battery Installation: The UNITUNE CLIP NOIR comes with one Lithium Metal battery pre-installed. If replacement is needed, locate the battery compartment on the back of the unit and insert a new CR2032 battery with the positive (+) side facing up.
  3. Attaching to Instrument: Open the clip mechanism and securely attach the tuner to the headstock of your guitar, bass, or other stringed instrument. Ensure the tuner is firmly clipped to allow for accurate vibration detection.

Operating Instructions

The UNITUNE CLIP NOIR offers intuitive operation for precise tuning. The device features two red control buttons on its side.

Power On/Off

To power the tuner on or off, press and hold the top red button on the side of the unit for approximately 1 second.

Tuning Modes

The tuner features two primary modes: Chromatic and Strobe.

  • Chromatic Mode: Provides fast and accurate tuning, ideal for quick adjustments during performances. The display shows the note name and indicates if the pitch is flat, sharp, or in tune.
  • Strobe Mode: Offers ultra-high precision tuning with ±0.02 cent accuracy. This mode is recommended for fine-tuning and intonation adjustments. The strobe display indicates pitch deviation with rotating patterns.

To switch between Chromatic and Strobe modes, briefly press the bottom red button on the side of the unit.

Display Interpretation

The 108-LED matrix display provides clear visual feedback. The main display shows the detected note and pitch deviation. In strobe mode, the movement of the LEDs indicates whether the note is flat or sharp. When the LEDs stop moving, the note is in perfect tune, typically indicated by green LEDs.

Reference Pitch Selection

The UNITUNE CLIP NOIR allows you to adjust the reference pitch (A4). To change the reference pitch, press and hold the bottom red button (mode button) and then briefly press the top red button (power button) to cycle through available A4 frequencies (e.g., 440 Hz, 442 Hz). Release both buttons to set the desired reference pitch.

Adaptive Screen Orientation

The display automatically rotates to ensure correct viewing orientation, whether you attach the tuner for left-hand or right-hand viewing. This feature ensures optimal readability regardless of your instrument or playing style.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance will ensure the longevity and performance of your UNITUNE CLIP NOIR tuner.

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the tuner's surface. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish and electronic components.
  • Battery Replacement: When the display dims or the tuner becomes unresponsive, it's time to replace the battery. Open the battery compartment on the back, remove the old CR2032 battery, and insert a new one with the positive (+) side facing up. Dispose of old batteries responsibly.
  • Storage: Store the tuner in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for an extended period, it is recommended to remove the battery to prevent leakage.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your UNITUNE CLIP NOIR, try the following solutions:

  • Tuner does not power on:
    • Ensure the battery is correctly installed with the positive (+) side facing up.
    • Replace the battery with a new CR2032 battery.
    • Press and hold the power button for at least 1 second.
  • Inaccurate tuning or erratic display:
    • Ensure the tuner is securely clipped to the instrument's headstock. Loose attachment can affect vibration detection.
    • Check for excessive background noise that might interfere with the tuner's sensor.
    • Try recalibrating the reference pitch (A4) if you suspect it has been changed.
    • Ensure the instrument itself is in good condition (e.g., strings are not too old, bridge is set correctly).
  • Display is dim:
    • The battery level may be low. Replace the CR2032 battery.
