4. Setup and Installation
This section outlines the general steps for installing your amplifier and subwoofers. Specific vehicle requirements may vary.
4.1. Amplifier Mounting
Choose a mounting location that is secure, dry, and allows for sufficient airflow around the amplifier's heatsink. Avoid mounting on carpeted surfaces directly, as this can restrict airflow. Common locations include the trunk, under a seat, or behind a rear seat.

4.2. Power Wiring (4 Gauge Amp Kit)
- Disconnect Battery: Disconnect the negative (-) terminal of your vehicle's battery.
- Power Cable: Run the 17-foot 4-gauge power cable from the battery location through the firewall to the amplifier's mounting location. Ensure the cable is protected from sharp edges and heat sources.
- Fuse Holder: Install the inline AGU fuse holder (with an 80A or 100A fuse) as close to the battery's positive (+) terminal as possible (within 18 inches). Connect the power cable to the fuse holder and then to the battery's positive (+) terminal. Do not insert the fuse until all wiring is complete.
- Ground Cable: Connect the 3-foot 4-gauge ground cable from the amplifier's GND terminal to a clean, unpainted metal surface on the vehicle's chassis. Ensure a solid, low-resistance connection.
- Remote Turn-On Wire: Connect the 17-foot 18-gauge turn-on cable from your head unit's remote output (usually blue or blue/white) to the amplifier's REM terminal. This wire tells the amplifier to turn on when your head unit is active.

4.3. Signal Input (RCA)
Connect the 17-foot double-shielded RCA cable from your head unit's subwoofer or pre-amp output to the amplifier's RCA input jacks.

4.4. Subwoofer Wiring
The Soundxtreme ST-1052 subwoofers feature a dual voice coil configuration with 4 Ohm impedance per voice coil. For optimal performance with the monoblock amplifier, you will typically wire the two subwoofers to present a final impedance that the amplifier can handle efficiently (e.g., 1 Ohm or 2 Ohm). Consult your amplifier's specifications for stable impedance loads.
- Single Subwoofer (Dual 4 Ohm Voice Coils):
- Parallel Wiring (2 Ohm): Connect positive (+) of voice coil 1 to positive (+) of voice coil 2, then connect to amplifier positive. Connect negative (-) of voice coil 1 to negative (-) of voice coil 2, then connect to amplifier negative.
- Series Wiring (8 Ohm): Connect positive (+) of voice coil 1 to amplifier positive. Connect negative (-) of voice coil 1 to positive (+) of voice coil 2. Connect negative (-) of voice coil 2 to amplifier negative.
- Two Subwoofers (Each with Dual 4 Ohm Voice Coils):
- Various wiring configurations are possible (e.g., wiring each subwoofer to 2 Ohm, then wiring the two subwoofers in series for a 4 Ohm final load, or in parallel for a 1 Ohm final load). The Audiobank P5000.1D is rated for 1 Ohm stability (5000W x 1 at 1 Ohm). A common configuration for two dual 4 Ohm subwoofers to achieve a 1 Ohm load is to wire each subwoofer's voice coils in parallel (resulting in 2 Ohm per subwoofer), then wire the two 2 Ohm subwoofers in parallel to the amplifier.
Use the 20-foot 16-gauge speaker wire from the amp kit to connect the subwoofers to the amplifier's speaker output terminals. Ensure correct polarity.

4.5. Final Connections
Once all wiring is complete and checked for proper connections and polarity, insert the fuse into the fuse holder near the battery. Reconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal.
5. Operating the Amplifier
After installation, adjust the amplifier settings for optimal sound performance.
- Gain Control: This control matches the amplifier's input sensitivity to the output level of your head unit. Start with the gain set to minimum. Play a familiar track at about 75% of your head unit's maximum volume. Slowly increase the amplifier's gain until you hear distortion, then back it off slightly. This is not a volume control.
- Low Pass Crossover (LPF): The P5000.1D features a continuously variable LPF from 40Hz to 180Hz. This filter allows only frequencies below the set point to pass through to the subwoofers. Adjust this to blend the subwoofer output smoothly with your main speakers. A common starting point is 80Hz-100Hz.
- Bass Boost: This control provides a boost in bass frequencies (0 to +12dB). Use sparingly, as excessive bass boost can lead to distortion and potential damage to your subwoofers.
- Remote Subwoofer Level Control: This wired remote allows you to adjust the subwoofer output level from the driver's seat, providing convenient control over your bass.
6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Periodically wipe the amplifier and subwoofers with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Ventilation: Ensure the amplifier's heatsink remains clear of obstructions to maintain proper cooling.
- Connections: Occasionally check all wiring connections for tightness and corrosion. Loose connections can lead to poor performance or damage.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Amplifier does not turn on (no power LED) | Blown fuse, loose power/ground/remote wire, no remote signal from head unit. | Check fuse in fuse holder and on amplifier. Verify all power, ground, and remote connections are secure. Test remote wire for 12V when head unit is on. |
| No sound from subwoofers | Loose RCA cables, incorrect gain setting, speaker wires disconnected, amplifier in protection mode. | Check RCA connections at head unit and amplifier. Ensure gain is not at minimum. Verify speaker wire connections. Check amplifier's protection indicator. |
| Distorted sound | Gain set too high, improper LPF setting, damaged speaker wire, damaged subwoofer. | Reduce gain setting. Adjust LPF. Inspect speaker wires for damage. If distortion persists, inspect subwoofers. |
| Amplifier overheats / goes into protection mode | Insufficient ventilation, impedance too low, prolonged high volume use. | Ensure adequate airflow around amplifier. Verify subwoofer wiring impedance matches amplifier's stable load. Reduce volume. |
