4. Installation/Setup

Before beginning installation, ensure your motorcycle's engine is off and the battery is disconnected for safety. This product is designed for universal fit on 7/8" (22mm) handlebars.

  1. Prepare Handlebars: If your handlebars have existing bar-end weights or plugs, remove them. Ensure the inside of the handlebar is clear for the expansion inserts.
  2. Assemble Mounting Brackets: Attach the L-shaped metal mounting brackets to the handguards using the provided short mounting bolts, nuts, and washers. Ensure they are securely fastened but allow for slight adjustment.
  3. Insert Handlebar Plugs: Insert the expansion handlebar end plugs into the open ends of your motorcycle's handlebars.
  4. Mount Handguards: Align the handguards with the handlebar ends and the expansion plugs. Use the long mounting bolts to secure the handguards to the expansion plugs. Tighten gradually, ensuring the handguards are positioned correctly to protect your hands and levers without obstructing controls.
  5. Secure Inner Mount: Attach the inner part of the handguard's mounting bracket to a suitable point on your handlebar, typically near the controls, using the remaining hardware. Adjust the angle and position for optimal coverage and comfort.
  6. Wiring the LED Lights:
    • Identify the wiring from each handguard. There are typically three wires: one for ground (usually black), one for the running light (often white or blue), and one for the turn signal (often yellow or red).
    • Connect the ground wire from the handguard to a suitable ground point on your motorcycle's electrical system.
    • Connect the running light wire to your motorcycle's existing running light circuit. Note: Some users have reported the running light color to be blue. Verify local regulations regarding light colors.
    • Connect the turn signal wire to your motorcycle's corresponding left or right turn signal circuit. Ensure correct polarity.
    • Secure all wiring connections with electrical tape or heat shrink tubing to prevent short circuits and protect from elements.
  7. Final Adjustment and Testing: Once all components are mounted and wired, re-connect your motorcycle's battery. Test the running lights and turn signals to ensure they function correctly. Make any final adjustments to the handguard position for optimal fit and protection.

The LED lights integrated into the handguards operate in conjunction with your motorcycle's electrical system once properly wired.

  • Running Lights: When your motorcycle's running lights or headlights are activated, the white LEDs on the handguards will illuminate, providing additional forward visibility.
  • Turn Signals: When you activate your motorcycle's left or right turn signal, the amber LEDs on the corresponding handguard will flash in sync with your motorcycle's existing turn signals, enhancing side visibility for lane changes and turns.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance will help prolong the life and appearance of your handguards.

  • Cleaning: Clean the handguards regularly with mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the plastic or LED lenses.
  • Inspection: Periodically check all mounting bolts and nuts to ensure they are tight. Vibrations from riding can cause fasteners to loosen over time.
  • Wiring Check: Inspect the wiring for any signs of wear, fraying, or loose connections, especially after riding in harsh weather conditions.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
LED lights not illuminatingLoose wiring connection, incorrect wiring, blown fuse, faulty LED.Check all wiring connections for tightness and correct polarity. Inspect motorcycle's fuse box. If wiring is correct and fuse is good, the LED unit may be faulty.
