6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Connecting the Cable Tester

The Master Unit and Remote Unit can be separated for testing installed cables or kept together for testing shorter patch cables.

  1. If testing a short cable, connect one end of the cable to the appropriate port (HDMI or RJ45) on the Master Unit and the other end to the corresponding port on the Remote Unit.
  2. If testing an installed cable, connect the Master Unit to one end of the cable and the Remote Unit to the other end.

6.2. Performing a Cable Test

  1. Ensure the 9V battery is installed in the Master Unit.
  2. Connect the cable to be tested to both the Master Unit and the Remote Unit as described in Section 6.1.
  3. Turn on the tester using the power switch located on the side of the Master Unit.
  4. Press the "FUNC" button on the Master Unit to select the desired cable type (HDMI or RJ45) if the device has multiple modes. The corresponding indicator will light up.
  5. The tester will automatically begin scanning the cable. Observe the LED indicators on both the Master and Remote units.
  6. Interpretation of LED Indicators:
    • All LEDs light up sequentially on both units: Indicates a correctly wired cable with good continuity.
    • An LED on the Master Unit lights up, but the corresponding LED on the Remote Unit does not: Indicates an open circuit or a broken wire.
    • Multiple LEDs light up simultaneously or in an unexpected sequence: Indicates a short circuit or crossed wires.
    • No LEDs light up: Check battery, cable connection, or if the cable is completely broken.
  7. After testing, turn off the device to conserve battery life.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Tester does not power on:
    • Check if the 9V battery is installed correctly.
    • Replace the 9V battery with a new one.
    • Ensure the power switch is in the "ON" position.
  • Inconsistent or no LED readings:
    • Ensure cables are fully seated in both the Master and Remote unit ports.
    • Inspect the cable for visible damage.
    • Test with a known good cable to verify tester functionality.
  • Tester indicates a fault on a new cable:
    • Double-check the cable type selected (HDMI/RJ45).
    • Ensure the cable is correctly manufactured and not faulty.
