First Use / Priming the Machine

Before first use, or if the machine has not been used for a long time, it is necessary to prime the system to ensure proper water flow and heating.

  1. Ensure the water tank is filled.
  2. Place a large cup or container under the coffee outlet.
  3. Press the "1 SHOT" button. The machine will start dispensing hot water.
  4. Allow the machine to dispense water until the water flow is steady and consistent. This primes the pump and heating system.

Operating Instructions

Making Espresso

  1. Prepare the Portafilter: Insert either the single or double filter basket into the portafilter.
  2. Add Ground Coffee: Add the desired amount of finely ground coffee to the filter basket. For a single shot, use the single basket; for a double shot, use the double basket.
  3. Tamp the Coffee: Use the included tamper to evenly press the coffee grounds. Ensure the surface is level.
  4. Attach Portafilter: Insert the portafilter into the group head of the machine and twist it firmly to the right until it is securely locked in place.
  5. Place Cup: Position your espresso cup(s) on the drip tray directly under the portafilter spouts. The machine features a two-level cup holder to accommodate various cup sizes.
  6. Select Brew: Press the "1 SHOT" button for a single espresso or the "2 SHOT" button for a double espresso. The machine will automatically brew the coffee. For manual control, press the "MANUAL" button to start and press it again to stop.
  7. Enjoy: Once brewing is complete, carefully remove your cup(s).

The Gevi Espresso Machine features a Low Pressure Pre-Infusion system, which gradually increases pressure at the beginning of the brew cycle. This gently saturates the coffee grounds, allowing for a more even extraction and a richer, stronger espresso. It also boasts a Fast Heating System, capable of reaching optimal brewing temperature in 25-45 seconds after warm-up, and a 2-in-1 Intelligent Temperature Control System maintaining 197°F for crema extraction and 212°F for delicate milk foam.

Using the Steam Wand for Milk Frothing

  1. Prepare Milk: Fill a stainless steel frothing pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) to just below the spout.
  2. Activate Steam: Turn the steam knob on the side of the machine to the steam function. Wait for the steam indicator light to illuminate, indicating the machine has reached frothing temperature.
  3. Purge Steam Wand: Before frothing, briefly open the steam knob to release any condensed water from the wand into an empty cup. Close the knob.
  4. Froth Milk: Immerse the tip of the steam wand just below the surface of the milk. Slowly open the steam knob. Angle the pitcher slightly to create a vortex, incorporating air into the milk for microfoam. As the milk heats and expands, lower the pitcher to keep the tip just below the surface.
  5. Monitor Temperature: Continue frothing until the milk reaches your desired temperature (typically 140-150°F or when the pitcher is too hot to touch comfortably).
  6. Finish: Close the steam knob completely before removing the pitcher. Tap the pitcher on the counter to remove large bubbles and swirl to integrate the foam.
  7. Clean Steam Wand: Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to remove any milk residue. Briefly open the steam knob again to purge any milk from inside the wand.

Maintenance

Daily Cleaning

  • Portafilter and Filter Baskets: After each use, remove the portafilter, discard used coffee grounds, and rinse the portafilter and filter basket under running water. Use a brush to remove any stubborn residue.
  • Group Head: After removing the portafilter, press the "1 SHOT" button briefly to flush any remaining coffee grounds from the group head. Wipe the group head with a clean, damp cloth.
  • Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the detachable drip tray daily or when the indicator floats up.
  • Steam Wand: As mentioned in the operating instructions, wipe and purge the steam wand immediately after each use to prevent milk from drying inside. The nozzle is removable for thorough cleaning.

Deep Cleaning / Descaling

Regular descaling is crucial to maintain the machine's performance and extend its lifespan, especially in areas with hard water. Descale every 2-3 months, or more frequently if needed.

  1. Prepare Descaling Solution: Mix a descaling solution (e.g., citric acid or commercial descaler) with water according to the product's instructions. Fill the water tank with this solution.
  2. Run Solution Through Group Head: Place a large container under the group head. Press the "1 SHOT" button to dispense about half of the solution through the group head.
  3. Run Solution Through Steam Wand: Place another container under the steam wand. Turn the steam knob to dispense the remaining solution through the steam wand.
  4. Soak: Turn off the machine and let it sit for at least 30 minutes to allow the descaling solution to work.
  5. Rinse: Empty the water tank and fill it with fresh, clean water. Run several full tanks of clean water through both the group head and the steam wand to thoroughly rinse out any descaling solution. Repeat until no descaler smell remains.
