SWAROVSKI CL Companion 8x30 Binoculars Urban Jungle Instruction Manual

Model: 58233

Introduction

Thank you for choosing the SWAROVSKI CL Companion 8x30 Urban Jungle binoculars. These lightweight, compact binoculars are designed for birding, hunting, and general sight-seeing, offering 8x magnification and a 30mm objective lens for clear, bright images. This manual provides essential information for the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of your new binoculars to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Setup

1. Unpacking

Carefully remove the binoculars and all accessories from the packaging. Verify that all components are present.

2. Attaching the Neck Strap and Carrying Case

Attach the provided neck strap to the strap lugs located on the sides of the binoculars. Ensure both ends are securely fastened to prevent accidental drops. Place the binoculars in the protective carrying case when not in use.

3. Adjusting Eyecups

Twist the eyecups up or down to achieve the optimal viewing distance for your eyes. If you wear eyeglasses, twist the eyecups down completely. If you do not wear eyeglasses, twist the eyecups up to their fully extended position.

4. Adjusting Interpupillary Distance

Hold the binoculars up to your eyes and look through them. Adjust the hinge by moving the barrels closer together or further apart until you see a single, perfectly circular field of view without any dark edges.

5. Diopter Adjustment

This adjustment compensates for differences in vision between your left and right eyes.

  1. Close your right eye or cover the right objective lens.
  2. Look through the left eyepiece and focus on a distant object using the center focus wheel until the image is sharp.
  3. Now, close your left eye or cover the left objective lens.
  4. Look through the right eyepiece and adjust the diopter ring (usually located on the right eyepiece) until the same distant object appears sharp.
  5. Once set, your binoculars are adjusted for your eyes. For subsequent focusing, only use the center focus wheel.

6. Tripod Mounting (Optional)

For extended observation periods, the binoculars can be mounted on a tripod. A tripod adapter (sold separately) is required and connects to the threaded socket located at the front of the central hinge.

Operating Instructions

1. Basic Viewing

Hold the binoculars steady with both hands. Bring them up to your eyes, ensuring your eyes are centered with the eyepieces. Look towards your desired subject.

2. Focusing

Once the diopter is set (as described in the Setup section), use the large center focus wheel to bring objects into sharp focus. Rotate the wheel clockwise for more distant objects and counter-clockwise for closer objects.

3. Field of View

The CL Companion 8x30 binoculars provide a wide field of view (27.1 degrees), which is beneficial for observing expansive landscapes or tracking moving subjects like birds or wildlife.

4. Specific Uses

  • Birding: The compact size and clear optics make these binoculars suitable for identifying birds in various environments.
  • Hunting: Use for spotting game and surveying terrain.
  • Sight Seeing: Enhance your travel experiences by bringing distant landmarks and scenery closer.

Maintenance

1. Cleaning Lenses

To clean the lenses, first use a soft brush or compressed air to remove any loose dust or debris. For smudges or fingerprints, use a specialized lens cleaning cloth and a small amount of lens cleaning fluid. Gently wipe the lenses in a circular motion. Avoid using abrasive materials or excessive force, as this can scratch the lens coatings.

2. Cleaning Body

Wipe the body of the binoculars with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the finish and rubber armor.

3. Storage

When not in use, store the binoculars in their protective carrying case. Keep them in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and extreme temperatures. Avoid storing them in areas with strong vibrations.

4. Water Resistance

Please note that these binoculars are not water resistant. Avoid exposure to rain, splashes, or any form of moisture to prevent internal damage.

Troubleshooting

  • Problem: Image is blurry or out of focus.
Solution: Adjust the center focus wheel. If the image remains blurry, re-check and adjust the diopter setting as described in the Setup section.
  • Problem: Seeing two overlapping images or a partial view.
Solution: Adjust the interpupillary distance by moving the barrels closer together or further apart until a single, perfectly circular image is seen.
  • Problem: Difficulty seeing the full field of view.
Solution: Adjust the eyecups. Ensure they are correctly positioned for your viewing preference (up for non-eyeglass wearers, down for eyeglass wearers).
  • Problem: Image appears dim.
Solution: Ensure objective lens covers are removed. Check for dirt or smudges on the objective lenses and clean them carefully if necessary.
