5. RAID Configuration (Mac Users)
For Mac users, the Mobius Pro 5C includes a full version of SoftRAID. This software allows you to configure your drives into various RAID levels (0, 1, 4, 5, 1+0) to optimize for speed, redundancy, or a balance of both. Refer to the SoftRAID documentation for detailed instructions on creating and managing RAID volumes.
For Windows users, RAID configuration is typically managed through the operating system's Disk Management utility or third-party software.
Operating Instructions
Data Transfer
Once configured and recognized by your operating system, the Mobius Pro 5C will appear as a single or multiple volumes, depending on your RAID setup. You can drag and drop files, use backup software, or access it like any other external drive.

Using the USB-C Hub
The Mobius Pro 5C features a secondary USB 3.1 (5Gbps) Type-C hub port. This port can be used to:
- Daisy-chain: Connect additional Mobius Pro 5C units or other compatible USB-C devices.
- Connect Peripherals: Attach other USB devices such as card readers, flash drives, or bus-powered portable drives. The hub provides 15W (5V/3A) of power.
Ensure that the total power draw of daisy-chained or connected devices does not exceed the hub's power capabilities.
Power Management
To safely power off the Mobius Pro 5C, first unmount or eject all volumes from your operating system. Then, flip the power switch on the back of the unit to the "OFF" position. This prevents data corruption.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the unit. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
- Ventilation: Ensure the cooling vents on the back of the unit are not obstructed to allow for proper airflow.
- Drive Health: Regularly check the health of your hard drives using your operating system's disk utility or SoftRAID's monitoring features. Replace failing drives promptly to maintain data integrity, especially in RAID configurations that offer redundancy.
- Firmware Updates: Periodically check the Oyen Digital website for any available firmware updates for your Mobius Pro 5C.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Mobius Pro 5C, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- Device Not Recognized:
- Ensure all cables (power and USB-C) are securely connected.
- Verify the power switch is in the "ON" position.
- Try connecting to a different USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 port on your computer.
- Test with a different USB-C cable.
- Check your computer's Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (Mac) to see if the drives are detected but uninitialized or unformatted.
- Slow Performance:
- Ensure you are connected to a USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10Gbps) or Thunderbolt 3 port for optimal speed.
- Verify that your RAID configuration is appropriate for your performance needs (e.g., RAID 0 for maximum speed).
- Check for background processes on your computer that might be consuming system resources.
- Drive Activity LEDs Not Illuminating:
- Confirm drives are properly seated in their bays.
- Ensure the unit is powered on.
- If only one drive LED is off, that specific drive may be faulty or improperly installed.
