3.4 Threading the Machine

Correct threading is crucial for proper stitch formation.

Winding the Bobbin:

  1. Place a spool of thread on the spool pin.
  2. Guide the thread through the bobbin winding tension disc.
  3. Place an empty bobbin onto the bobbin winder spindle.
  4. Wrap the thread around the bobbin a few times clockwise.
  5. Push the bobbin winder spindle to the right.
  6. Turn on the machine (Low speed recommended) and allow the bobbin to fill. The machine will stop automatically when full.
  7. Cut the thread and push the bobbin winder spindle back to the left. Remove the filled bobbin.

Inserting the Lower Bobbin:

  1. Open the bobbin cover plate.
  2. Insert the filled bobbin into the bobbin case, ensuring the thread unwinds counter-clockwise.
  3. Pull the bobbin thread through the small slot in the bobbin case.
  4. Close the bobbin cover plate.

Threading the Upper Thread:

  1. Raise the needle to its highest position by turning the hand-wheel towards you.
  2. Place a spool of thread on the spool pin.
  3. Guide the thread through the first thread guide.
  4. Pass the thread down through the tension disc area.
  5. Guide the thread up and through the take-up lever (from right to left).
  6. Thread the needle from front to back. Use the needle threader if needed.
  7. Pull about 6 inches of thread through the needle eye.

Bringing Up the Bobbin Thread:

  1. Hold the upper thread gently with your left hand.
  2. Turn the hand-wheel towards you slowly, lowering and then raising the needle.
  3. The needle thread will catch the bobbin thread, forming a loop. Pull this loop up through the needle plate with your fingers or a small tool.
  4. Pull both upper and bobbin threads under the presser foot and towards the back of the machine, leaving about 4-6 inches of thread.

3.5 Needle Installation

Ensure the machine is OFF and unplugged before changing the needle.

  1. Loosen the needle clamp screw.
  2. Remove the old needle.
  3. Insert a new needle with the flat side facing the back of the machine.
  4. Push the needle up as far as it will go.
  5. Tighten the needle clamp screw securely.
