1. Important Safety Instructions

• Do not immerse the appliance, cord, or plug in water or other liquids.
• Ensure the appliance is placed on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface away from the edge of the countertop.
• Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs. The warming plate remains hot after brewing.
• Unplug from the outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
• Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner.
• The appliance is equipped with overheating protection, which automatically stops brewing if there is no water in the tank or if it overheats.
• Do not add more than 4 cups of water to the water tank to prevent overflow.

3. Setup & First Use

Before using your Gevi GECMD008-U coffee maker for the first time, it is essential to clean all removable parts and run a brewing cycle with only water to remove any manufacturing residues.

Initial Cleaning:

1. Remove the carafe, filter basket, and reusable filter. Wash them in warm, soapy water, then rinse thoroughly.
2. Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the unit in water.

First Brew Cycle (Water Only):

1. Fill the carafe with clean water up to the 4-cup mark.
2. Pour the water into the water tank, ensuring not to exceed the MAX line.
3. Place the empty carafe back on the warming plate.
4. Press the ON/OFF switch to start the brewing cycle.
5. Allow the full cycle to complete. Discard the water.

4. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to brew a perfect cup of coffee with your Gevi GECMD008-U coffee maker:

1. Fill Water: Use the carafe to measure the desired amount of clean water (up to 4 cups). Pour the water into the water tank. Do not exceed the MAX line indicated on the side of the tank.
2. Add Coffee Grounds: Place the reusable filter into the filter basket. For optimal flavor, use medium-ground coffee. A general recommendation is 10g of coffee powder (around 2 flat spoons) per 1-cup serving. Do not exceed 40g total.
3. Place Carafe: Ensure the carafe is correctly positioned on the warming plate, aligning the valve with the drip stop mechanism.
4. Start Brewing: Plug in the coffee maker and press the ON/OFF switch. The indicator light will illuminate, and brewing will begin.
5. Pause & Serve: If you wish to pour a cup before the brewing cycle is complete, you can temporarily remove the carafe. The drip stop feature will prevent coffee from dripping for approximately 30 seconds. Return the carafe to the warming plate within this time to resume brewing.
6. Enjoy: Once the brewing cycle is complete, the coffee maker will automatically stop, and the warming plate will keep your coffee hot.

5. Features Explained

6. Cleaning and Maintenance

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your coffee maker.

Daily Cleaning:

1. After each use, unplug the appliance and allow it to cool completely.
2. Discard used coffee grounds from the reusable filter.
3. Remove the filter basket and reusable filter. Wash them, along with the carafe, in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
4. Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker and the warming plate with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.

Descaling (Monthly or as needed):

Mineral deposits from water can build up over time, affecting performance. Descale your coffee maker regularly.

1. Prepare a descaling solution (e.g., a 4:1 ratio of water to white vinegar).
2. Pour the solution into the water tank up to the 4-cup mark.
3. Place the empty carafe on the warming plate.
4. Run a full brewing cycle with the descaling solution.
5. After the cycle, let the solution sit in the carafe for 15 minutes.
6. Discard the solution and rinse the carafe thoroughly.
7. Fill the water tank with clean water and run 2-3 full brewing cycles to rinse out any remaining descaling solution.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Gevi GECMD008-U coffee maker, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

• Coffee Brews Less Than Water Added: It is normal for the final coffee volume to be slightly less than the water added to the tank. This is because some water is absorbed by the coffee grounds during the brewing process. To achieve a full 3 cups of coffee, you may need to add slightly more water (e.g., 3.5 cups) to compensate for absorption. However, never exceed the 4-cup MAX line.
• Water Leaks from the Back: If you add water beyond the 4-cup MAX line, excess water will exit through a safety overflow hole located at the back of the water tank. This is a safety feature, not a defect. Always adhere to the MAX fill line.
• Noisy Operation: Some noise during brewing is normal, especially as the water tank empties. This is due to the movement of water and steam within the system.
• Coffee Tastes Weak or Bitter: Ensure you are using the recommended medium-ground coffee and the correct coffee-to-water ratio (10g powder per 150-160ml water). Also, avoid keeping coffee on the warming plate for extended periods, as this can alter its flavor.
