5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your D-Link DIR-2640 router, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Internet Connection:
    • Verify that your modem is working correctly and has an active internet connection.
    • Check all Ethernet cable connections between the modem and the router, and between the router and your devices.
    • Reboot both your modem and router by unplugging them from power for 30 seconds and then plugging them back in. Wait for them to fully restart.
  • Slow Wi-Fi Speed or Frequent Disconnections:
    • Ensure the router is placed in an optimal location, free from interference.
    • Check if too many devices are connected and actively using bandwidth.
    • Verify that your router's firmware is up to date.
    • Try connecting to the 5 GHz band if your device supports it, as it generally offers higher speeds and less interference.
  • Cannot Access Router Settings:
    • Ensure your device is connected to the router's network (either wired or wirelessly).
    • Confirm you are typing the correct address (http://dlinkrouter.local or 192.168.0.1) into your web browser.
    • Clear your browser's cache or try a different web browser.
  • Forgotten Wi-Fi Password or Admin Password:
    • The default Wi-Fi password is printed on the router's label.
    • If you have changed it and forgotten, you may need to perform a factory reset. Locate the 'RESET' button on the back of the router, press and hold it for 10 seconds with a paperclip until the power LED blinks. This will restore all settings to factory defaults, including Wi-Fi and admin passwords. You will then need to reconfigure the router.
