The lock is equipped with a soft textile cover to protect your bike's paintwork and a sliding cover for the number rollers to guard against dirt and moisture, ensuring long-term legibility of the numbers. This manual provides essential information on setting up, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting your ABUS 8808C chain lock.

Key Features

Setup

Your ABUS 8808C chain lock comes with a factory-set combination, typically 0-0-0-0. It is highly recommended to change this to a personal, memorable combination immediately after unboxing.

Setting the Combination

  1. Ensure the lock is open and set to the current combination (factory default is 0-0-0-0).
  2. Locate the reset mechanism. This is usually a small button or a rotatable part on the lock body, often requiring a small tool (like a pen tip) to press or turn. Refer to the diagram below for its exact location.
  3. With the lock open and the current combination set, activate the reset mechanism. For a button, press and hold it. For a rotatable part, turn it 90 degrees clockwise or counter-clockwise as indicated.
  4. While holding the reset mechanism (or with it in the reset position), set your desired new 4-digit combination by rotating the number rollers. Choose a combination that is easy for you to remember but difficult for others to guess.
  5. Release the reset mechanism (or turn it back to its original position). Your new combination is now set.
  6. Important: Scramble the numbers immediately after setting your new combination to ensure it is correctly saved. Test the new combination to open the lock before securing your bicycle.

  3. Pull the shackle or locking mechanism away from the chain link to open the lock.

Closing the Lock

  1. Pass the chain through the frame of your bicycle and around a fixed object (e.g., a bike rack, lamppost).
  2. Insert the locking mechanism back into the designated opening on the chain link until it clicks securely into place.
  3. Scramble the number rollers immediately after closing the lock to secure it.
  4. Slide the protective cover back over the number rollers to shield them from elements.
