Setup and Initial Operation
Winding the Watch
Your Longines Legend Diver watch is equipped with an automatic movement (Caliber L888) that winds itself with the motion of your wrist. If the watch has stopped or its power reserve is low, it can be manually wound.
- Unscrew the Crown: Locate the main crown (usually at the 3 o'clock position, or the lower crown on this model). Gently unscrew it counter-clockwise until it springs out to position 1.
- Manual Winding: In position 1, turn the crown clockwise approximately 30-40 times. This will provide sufficient power to start the watch.
- Secure the Crown: Push the crown back in and screw it clockwise firmly against the case to ensure water resistance.
Setting the Time and Date
- Unscrew and Pull Crown: Unscrew the main crown (lower crown) and pull it out to position 3 (farthest out). The second hand will stop.
- Set Time: Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to set the desired time. To avoid setting the date at midnight, it is recommended to set the time past 12 o'clock to determine if it's AM or PM.
- Set Date: Push the crown in to position 2. Turn the crown clockwise to adjust the date. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this is when the date change mechanism is engaged and could be damaged.
- Synchronize and Secure: Once the time and date are set, push the crown back to position 1 and screw it firmly against the case.
Operating the Inner Rotating Bezel
The Longines Legend Diver features an internal rotating bezel, controlled by the upper crown (typically at the 2 o'clock position). This bezel is useful for timing dives or other events.
- Unscrew the Upper Crown: Gently unscrew the upper crown counter-clockwise until it springs out.
- Rotate Bezel: Turn the crown to rotate the inner bezel to align the desired marker with the minute hand for timing.
- Secure the Crown: Push the crown back in and screw it clockwise firmly against the case to ensure water resistance.
Care and Maintenance
Proper care will ensure the longevity and performance of your Longines watch.
- Cleaning: For the stainless steel case and sapphire crystal, use a soft, damp cloth. For the leather strap, avoid excessive moisture and harsh chemicals.
- Water Resistance: The watch is water resistant to 300 meters (30 ATM). Ensure both crowns are fully screwed down before any contact with water. While suitable for diving, always rinse the watch with fresh water after exposure to salt water and dry it thoroughly.
- Temperature Extremes: Avoid exposing your watch to sudden temperature changes or extreme temperatures, which can affect the movement and seals.
- Magnetic Fields: Keep the watch away from strong magnetic fields (e.g., speakers, refrigerators, certain electronic devices) as they can affect the accuracy of the mechanical movement.
- Servicing: It is recommended to have your watch serviced by an authorized Longines service center every 3-5 years to ensure optimal performance and water resistance.
