  1. Extendable Antenna: For improved radio reception.
  2. Flashlight: Located on the left side of the unit.
  3. Light ON/OFF Switch: Activates/deactivates the flashlight.
  4. Siren ON/OFF Switch: Activates/deactivates the emergency siren.
  5. Speakers: Two red grilles on the front for audio output.
  6. LCD Display: Shows current mode (WB, AM, FM), frequency, volume level, and time.
  7. Volume Up (VOL+): Increases audio volume.
  8. Volume Down (VOL-): Decreases audio volume.
  9. Tune Up (TUNE+): Scans or adjusts frequency upwards.
  10. Tune Down (TUNE-): Scans or adjusts frequency downwards.
  11. Mode Button: Switches between AM, FM, and WB (Weather Band) modes.
  12. Time Set Button: Used to set the clock.
  13. Power Button: Turns the radio ON/OFF.
  14. Battery Selector Switch: Selects between internal Li-ion battery or external AA batteries.
  15. Charge Indicator: LED light indicating charging status.
  16. Alert Indicator: LED light indicating a weather alert.
  17. USB Output Port: For charging external devices.
  18. Micro USB Input Port: For charging the internal Li-ion battery.
  19. Hand Crank: For manual power generation.
  20. Solar Panel: For solar charging.

Setup: Powering the Device

The JEP-650R offers multiple power options:

1. Internal Li-ion Battery (2000mAh)

The radio contains a built-in rechargeable Li-ion battery. Ensure the Battery Selector Switch is set to "LI-ION".

Note: For initial use, it is recommended to fully charge the internal battery via USB.

2. AA Batteries

For an alternative power source, you can use 3 AA batteries (not included).

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the unit.
  2. Open the compartment and insert 3 AA batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-).
  3. Close the battery compartment securely.
  4. Set the Battery Selector Switch to "AA".

Important: Do not attempt to charge AA batteries using the radio's charging methods. Remove AA batteries if the unit will not be used for an extended period.

Operating Instructions

1. Basic Radio Operation (AM/FM)

  1. Extend the telescopic antenna for optimal reception.
  2. Press the Power Button to turn the radio ON.
  3. Press the MODE Button to select AM or FM band. The selected band will appear on the LCD display.
  4. Use the TUNE+ or TUNE- buttons to manually tune to a desired station. Press and hold these buttons for automatic scanning to the next available station.
  5. Adjust the volume using the VOL+ or VOL- buttons.
  6. To turn the radio OFF, press the Power Button again.

2. NOAA Weather Radio Operation

The JEP-650R can receive all 7 NOAA weather band channels.

  1. Press the Power Button to turn the radio ON.
  2. Press the MODE Button repeatedly until "WB" (Weather Band) appears on the LCD display.
  3. Use the TUNE+ or TUNE- buttons to select one of the 7 NOAA weather channels (162.400, 162.425, 162.450, 162.475, 162.500, 162.525, 162.550 MHz). Select the channel with the clearest reception in your area.
  4. Weather Alert Function: When in WB mode, the radio can be set to alert you to severe weather. Once a NOAA channel is selected, the radio will monitor for alerts. If an alert is broadcast, the radio will emit an audible alarm and the ALERT indicator will flash.

3. Flashlight Operation

Slide the LIGHT ON/OFF Switch to "ON" to activate the LED flashlight. Slide it to "OFF" to turn it off.

4. Siren Operation

Slide the SIREN ON/OFF Switch to "ON" to activate the emergency siren. Slide it to "OFF" to turn it off. Use this feature responsibly in emergency situations only.

5. USB Power Bank Function

The JEP-650R can charge external USB-powered devices using its internal Li-ion battery.

  1. Ensure the internal Li-ion battery is sufficiently charged.
  2. Connect your mobile device's USB charging cable to the USB Output Port on the radio.
  3. The radio will begin charging your device. The radio does not need to be powered on for this function.

Note: Charging an external device will deplete the radio's internal battery. This feature is intended for emergency use.

6. Setting the Time

Press and hold the TIME SET Button until the time display flashes. Use the TUNE+ or TUNE- buttons to adjust the hour, then press TIME SET again to move to minutes and adjust. Press TIME SET one more time to confirm.

Troubleshooting

Radio does not turn on.
  • Ensure the selected battery source (Li-ion or AA) is charged/fresh.
  • Check the Battery Selector Switch is in the correct position.
Poor radio reception.
  • Extend the telescopic antenna fully.
  • Adjust the radio's position for better signal.
  • Move away from sources of interference (e.g., other electronics).
Cannot charge external device.
  • Ensure the internal Li-ion battery is sufficiently charged.
  • Check the USB cable connection.
Hand crank or solar charging not working.
  • Ensure the Battery Selector Switch is set to "LI-ION".
  • For solar, ensure direct sunlight. For hand crank, ensure consistent rotation.
