3. Setup

3.1 Attaching the Lens

1. Ensure your camera is turned off.
2. Align the white dot on the lens barrel with the white dot on your camera's lens mount.
3. Gently insert the lens into the camera mount.
4. Rotate the lens clockwise until it clicks into place, indicating it is securely locked.

3.2 Attaching/Detaching the Lens Hood

The lens comes with a dedicated lens hood to reduce flare and provide physical protection. The hood can be mounted in two orientations: for use, or reversed for storage.

1. For Use: Align the white dot on the lens hood with the white dot on the front of the lens. Rotate the hood clockwise until it clicks into place.
2. For Storage: Align the white dot on the lens hood with the white dot on the front of the lens. Rotate the hood counter-clockwise until it detaches. Flip the hood around and align the white dot on the hood with the white dot on the front of the lens again, then rotate clockwise until it clicks into place. This allows for compact storage.

3.3 Firmware Update

The VILTROX 56mm F1.4 E lens supports firmware updates via a USB-C port located on the lens mount. This ensures compatibility with new camera models and performance improvements.

1. Visit the official VILTROX website's download center to find the latest firmware for your specific lens model.
2. Download the firmware file to your computer.
3. Connect the lens to your computer using a USB-C cable. The lens should appear as an external drive.
4. Drag and drop the downloaded firmware file onto the lens's external drive.
5. Safely eject the lens from your computer and disconnect the cable. The firmware update will automatically apply.

4. Operating the Lens

4.1 Autofocus (AF)

The VILTROX 56mm F1.4 E lens supports fast and accurate autofocus, including advanced features like Eye-AF on compatible Sony E-mount cameras. Ensure your camera's autofocus settings are configured for optimal performance.

• For best results, use your camera's latest firmware.
• The STM motor provides quiet autofocus, ideal for video recording.

4.2 Manual Focus (MF)

To use manual focus, set your camera to MF mode. The wide focus ring on the lens barrel provides a smooth and precise manual focusing experience. The focus-by-wire system ensures accurate adjustments.

4.3 Aperture Control

The lens features a dedicated aperture ring with clickless operation, allowing for smooth aperture adjustments, which is beneficial for video. You can also control the aperture directly from your camera body if you prefer.

• To control aperture via the lens ring, rotate the ring to your desired F-stop (F1.4 to F16).
• To control aperture via the camera body, set the lens aperture ring to the 'A' (Auto) position.

4.4 Bokeh Characteristics
