4.2 Mounting the Meter
The meter can be mounted using the provided 3M adhesive velcro or cable ties.
- Adhesive Mounting: Clean the desired mounting surface thoroughly. Attach one side of the 3M adhesive velcro to the back of the meter and the other side to the mounting surface. Press firmly to secure.
- Cable Tie Mounting: Use the provided cable ties to secure the meter to a suitable location, such as a handlebar or frame.
4.3 Wiring for RPM and Hour Tracking
The meter tracks RPM and hours by sensing the electrical pulses from the spark plug wire.
- Locate the spark plug wire on your engine.
- Wrap the sensor wire from the meter tightly around the spark plug wire. For optimal accuracy, coil the sensor wire around the spark plug wire multiple times (e.g., 5-7 wraps) and secure it with a cable tie. Ensure the connection is firm to prevent spurious readings.
- Route the sensor wire away from moving parts and heat sources, securing it with cable ties as needed.

4.4 Engine Type and RPM Range Selection
To ensure accurate RPM readings, configure the meter for your specific engine type and desired RPM measurement range.
- The meter is suitable for gas engines: 2-stroke engines up to 6 cylinders and 4-stroke engines up to 12 cylinders.
- Refer to the table below for RPM range selection (R1-R4) based on your engine's maximum RPM. This setting is typically adjusted via the 'SET' button in configuration mode.
| Range Selection | Measurement Range |
|---|---|
| R1 | 0-25000 RPM |
| R2 | 0-18000 RPM |
| R3 | 0-12000 RPM |
| R4 | 0-6000 RPM |
5. Operating Instructions
The Runleader Digital Tach Hour Meter features multiple functions accessible via its buttons (MENU and SET).
5.1 Hour Meter Functions
- Total Hours (TOT): Accumulates engine total working hours. The timing reads up to 99,999 hours with 0.1 or 1-hour accuracy. TOT hours are non-resettable but will restart from 0 if the value exceeds 99,999 hours.
- Initial Hours Setting: Allows programming of initial total hours, useful when replacing an old hour meter.
- Partial Time: Records the working period for each engine operation cycle.

5.2 Tachometer Functions
- Real-time RPM: Records and displays the engine's real-time RPM value when the engine is running. Measurement range is 0-20000 RPM with 10 RPM resolution.
- Maximum RPM: Displays the highest RPM recorded since the engine was last started.
- RPM Alert: Features an RPM alert channel for speed exceedance. The meter will remind you by displaying a red backlight and a flashed warning icon when the set RPM limit is surpassed.

Image 5.2: Top image shows the standard green backlight RPM display. Bottom image shows the red backlight and warning icon indicating an RPM alert condition.
5.3 Backlight Display
The meter features a green and red backlight display. The backlight mode is programmable. While the green backlight enhances visibility, continuous use will consume battery power more rapidly. The meter retains data even after shutdown.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Service Reminders (SVC)
The meter includes a countdown tracking service reminder time (SVC). It will remind you of an arrived service status by a flashed icon. The maintenance time range can be set from 0 to 200 hours.
6.2 Job Timer (JOB)
The JOB timer is used to measure the duration of specific work tasks, such as oil changes or air filter replacements. This value can be reset after each task.
6.3 Battery Replacement
The CR2032 battery is replaceable. When the display dims or functions become erratic, it is time to replace the battery. Follow the steps outlined in Section 4.1.
6.4 Cleaning
Clean the meter's display and casing with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the unit.
7. Troubleshooting
- Inaccurate RPM Readings: Ensure the sensor wire is tightly coiled around the spark plug wire (5-7 wraps recommended) and secured. Verify that the correct engine firing pattern and RPM measurement range are selected in the meter's settings.
- No Display/Dim Display: Check the battery. Replace the CR2032 battery if necessary. Ensure the battery is inserted correctly.
- Water Exposure: The meter has an IP65 waterproof rating, meaning it is protected from dust and low-pressure water jets. While designed to withstand splashes and rain, prolonged submersion or high-pressure water exposure is not recommended and may compromise the unit.
- Data Loss: The meter is designed to retain data after shutdown. If data is lost, check the battery connection and ensure the battery has sufficient charge.
