Introduction

Important Safeguards

WARNING:

• Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
• Carafe is designed for use with this appliance. It must never be used on a range top.
• Do not place a hot carafe on a wet or cold surface.
• Do not use a cracked carafe or a carafe having a loose or weakened handle.
• Do not clean carafe with cleansers, steel wool pads, or other abrasive material.
• To prevent scalding, ensure carafe is properly seated on the heating plate during brewing.

Setup

1. Unpack: Remove all packing materials, stickers, and plastic bands from the coffeemaker.
2. Clean: Wash the Duralife™ glass carafe, lid, and removable filter basket in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
3. First Use Cycle: Before brewing coffee for the first time, run a full cycle with just water to clean the internal components.
   • Fill the water reservoir to the 12-cup mark with fresh, cold water.
   • Place an empty filter (paper or reusable) in the filter basket.
   • Place the empty carafe on the heating plate.
   • Plug in the coffeemaker and press the power button to start the cycle.
   • Once the cycle is complete, discard the water and turn off the coffeemaker.

Operating Instructions

Brewing Coffee

1. Fill Water Reservoir: Open the lid and fill the water reservoir with desired amount of fresh, cold water using the carafe. Refer to the water level markings on the side of the coffeemaker. Do not exceed the 12-cup max line.
2. Add Coffee Grounds: Place a paper filter (basket-style) or the reusable filter into the removable filter basket. Add the desired amount of ground coffee. For best results, use 1 tablespoon of ground coffee per cup.
3. Place Carafe: Ensure the carafe lid is securely in place and position the empty carafe on the "Keep Hot" plate.
4. Start Brewing: Plug the coffeemaker into an electrical outlet. Press the power button to begin brewing. The digital display will illuminate.
5. Sneak-A-Cup™: If you need a cup before brewing is complete, you can temporarily remove the carafe. The flow of coffee will pause. Return the carafe to the heating plate within 30 seconds to prevent overflow.

Programmable Features

• Brew Later: Set the coffeemaker to start brewing at a specific time. Press the "BREW LATER" button, then use "HOUR" and "MIN" buttons to set the desired start time. Press "BREW LATER" again to confirm.
• Brew Strength Selector: Choose between regular and strong brew. Press the "STRONG" button to activate a slower brewing process for a bolder cup of coffee.
• Adjustable Keep Warm Timer: The "Keep Hot" carafe plate keeps coffee warm. Use the "KEEP WARM" button to set the duration (30, 60, 90, 120 minutes, or OFF). The unit automatically shuts off after the set time for safety and energy savings.

Cleaning and Maintenance

• Daily Cleaning: After each use, discard used coffee grounds and paper filter. Wash the carafe, lid, and filter basket in warm, soapy water. These parts are also top-rack dishwasher safe.
• Smart-Clean System: The automatic cleaning cycle helps prevent mineral buildup. When the "CLEAN" indicator light illuminates, it's time to run the cleaning cycle.
  1. Empty the carafe and filter basket.
  2. Fill the water reservoir to the 6-cup mark with white vinegar, then fill to the 12-cup mark with cold water.
  3. Place the empty carafe on the heating plate.
  4. Press the "CLEAN" button. The coffeemaker will run a cleaning cycle.
  5. Once complete, discard the vinegar solution and run 2-3 cycles with fresh, cold water to rinse thoroughly.
• Exterior Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the coffeemaker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
