Introduction

This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the setup, operation, and maintenance of your Cisco IP Phone 8845. The Cisco IP Phone 8800 Series with Multi-Platform Phone firmware is designed to enhance workplace productivity with its user-friendly features, ergonomic design, wideband audio, and secure communications.

The Cisco IP Phone 8845 features a 5-inch VGA backlit color display and supports 720p HD two-way video. It includes a Gigabit Ethernet switch and supports Class 2 Power over Ethernet (PoE).

Package Contents

Note: The power cube and power cord are included for non-PoE deployments.

Setup

1. Physical Connection

Before connecting the phone, ensure you have access to a network drop and, if not using Power over Ethernet (PoE), a power outlet.

  1. Connect the Handset: Plug one end of the handset cord into the handset and the other end into the handset port on the phone base.
  2. Connect to Network: Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the network port (labeled SW or Network) on the back of the phone and the other end to your network switch or wall jack.
  3. Connect to PC (Optional): If you wish to connect a PC through the phone, connect an Ethernet cable from your PC to the PC port (labeled PC) on the back of the phone.
  4. Connect Power (if not using PoE): If your network does not provide PoE, connect the power cube to the power port on the phone and then plug the power cord into an electrical outlet.

2. Initial Boot-up and Configuration

Once connected, the phone will power on automatically and begin the boot-up process. This may take a few minutes.

  • The phone will attempt to obtain network configuration (IP address, subnet mask, gateway, DNS) via DHCP.
  • It will then attempt to register with your call control system (e.g., Cisco Unified Communications Manager or Cisco Webex Calling).
  • Follow any on-screen prompts for initial setup, such as language selection or network settings if DHCP is not available.

Note: This device is optimized for Cisco Webex Calling. A Cisco Webex subscription must be purchased separately for full functionality.

Operating Instructions

Making and Receiving Calls

  • To Make a Call: Lift the handset, press a line button, or press the Speaker button. Dial the number and press the Call softkey or wait for automatic dialing.
  • To Answer a Call: Lift the handset, press the flashing line button, or press the Answer softkey.
  • To End a Call: Replace the handset, or press the End Call softkey or Speaker button.

Using Fixed Function Keys

The phone features dedicated buttons for common functions:

  • Messages: Access your voicemail.
  • Directory: Access corporate and personal directories.
  • Hold/Resume: Place an active call on hold or resume a held call.
  • Transfer: Transfer an active call to another party.
  • Conference: Initiate a conference call.
  • Settings: Access phone settings and preferences.

Video Calling (720p HD)

The Cisco IP Phone 8845 supports 720p HD two-way video communication.

  • Initiating a Video Call: When making a call, if the recipient's device supports video, the video stream will automatically activate. Ensure the camera is not obstructed.
  • Managing Video: Use the on-screen softkeys to control video features such as muting your video feed or switching camera views (if applicable).

Maintenance

Cleaning the Phone

  • Always disconnect the phone from power before cleaning.
