Introduction
The YARDMAX 21” 3-in-1 high-rear-wheel push mower is designed for homeowners seeking a feature-rich, easy-to-use lawn mower. Its 170cc OHV Yardmax engine provides maximum performance for its class. The YG1650 features a high-rear-wheel design with durable 1.5” wide treads and double ball bearings on all wheels, ensuring easier pushing and even cuts. This mower allows you to customize your lawn's appearance with a single convenient lever for selecting one of seven cutting heights, ranging from 1.25” to 3.75”. The innovative MaxFlow volute deck is engineered to keep grass clippings airborne longer, facilitating superior mulching or efficient collection into the rear bag. For convenient storage in tight garage spaces, the entire mower can be compactly folded. Only limited assembly is required to get started.

Setup and Initial Preparation
Your YARDMAX lawn mower requires minimal assembly and preparation before its first use. Follow these steps to ensure proper setup:
- Unpacking and Handle Assembly: Carefully remove the mower from its packaging. The handle typically comes folded for shipping. Unfold the handle and secure it in place using the provided knobs or levers. Ensure all connections are tight and stable.
- Adding Engine Oil: Before starting the engine for the first time, you must add the appropriate engine oil. Refer to the engine's oil fill cap or the included engine manual for the correct oil type and capacity. Use a funnel to prevent spills.
- Adding Fuel: Fill the fuel tank with fresh, unleaded gasoline. Do not overfill. Always use gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher.
- Adjusting Cutting Height: Locate the single-lever deck adjustment. Move the lever to your desired cutting height. The mower offers seven cutting heights from 1.25 inches to 3.75 inches.
- Attaching the Grass Bag (Optional): If you plan to bag clippings, attach the large capacity rear bag. It is designed for quick installation and removal.

Operating Instructions
The YARDMAX YG1650 is designed for efficient and versatile lawn care. Understand its features for optimal performance:
- Starting the Engine: Ensure the fuel tank is filled and the engine oil level is correct. Prime the engine as per the instructions on the engine itself (usually a few presses of a primer bulb). Pull the engine start/stop control lever towards the handle and then pull the recoil starter cord firmly until the engine starts.
- Cutting Height Adjustment: Utilize the single-lever deck adjustment to quickly set your desired mowing height. Choose from seven cutting heights, ranging from 1.25 inches for a very short cut to 3.75 inches for a taller lawn.
- 3-in-1 Functionality:
- Mulching: The MaxFlow volute spiral deck design keeps grass clippings airborne longer, allowing them to be finely cut and returned to the lawn as natural fertilizer. No additional attachments are needed for mulching.
- Bagging: For collecting clippings, ensure the large capacity rear bag is properly installed. The MaxFlow deck efficiently directs clippings into the bag.
- Side Discharge: Attach the side discharge chute (Figure 4) to direct clippings away from the mower. This is useful for very tall grass or when mulching/bagging is not desired.
- Maneuverability: The high rear wheels and double ball bearings on all wheels contribute to easier pushing and smooth maneuverability, even on uneven terrain. The light and compact design further enhances ease of use, especially in smaller lawns or tight spaces.
- Stopping the Engine: Release the engine start/stop control lever to quickly stop the engine and the blade. The blade is designed to stop within 3 seconds for safety.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your YARDMAX lawn mower. Always disconnect the spark plug wire before performing any maintenance.
- Blade Inspection and Replacement: Regularly inspect the cutting blade for sharpness and damage. A dull or damaged blade can lead to uneven cuts and strain on the engine. Blade replacement is designed to be quick and can be done in minutes.
- Deck Cleaning: After each use, clean the underside of the heavy-duty 16-gauge seamless stamped steel deck to prevent grass buildup, which can affect cutting performance and airflow. The deck's design helps reduce vibration during operation.
- Engine Maintenance: Refer to the engine manual for specific maintenance schedules, including oil changes, air filter cleaning/replacement, and spark plug inspection.
- Storage: For space-saving storage, the mower can be fully folded (Figure 6). Ensure the fuel tank is empty or stabilized, and the engine is clean before long-term storage.
