3. Setup Guide
Follow these steps to set up your Shinco Dehumidifier for the first time:
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the dehumidifier from its packaging. Retain all packaging materials for future storage or transport.
- Placement: Place the unit on a flat, stable surface in the desired location. Ensure there is at least 8 inches of space around the unit for proper air circulation. Avoid placing it against walls or furniture that might obstruct air intake or exhaust.
- Filter Installation: The dehumidifier comes with a PP filter and an Activated Carbon filter. Ensure both are properly installed.
- Locate the filter compartment at the back of the unit.
- Pull out the filter frame.
- Insert the Activated Carbon filter first, ensuring the 'FRONT' surface is facing outwards.
- Then, insert the PP filter into the frame.
- Slide the filter frame back into the unit.
- Important: Pull out any plastic wrap from the filters before running the machine.
- Power Connection: Plug the power cord into a grounded electrical outlet.

Familiarize yourself with the control panel and operating modes:

Figure 4.1: Easy Control Panel
This image displays the top control panel of the dehumidifier, labeling each button and indicator: Timer, Inside Drying Key, Fan Speed, Tank Full indicator, Digital Display, Desired Humidity, Mode, and On/Off Button.
4.1 Control Panel Functions
- ON/OFF Button: Press to turn the unit on or off.
- Mode Button (M): Cycle through operating modes:
- Auto Mode: The dehumidifier intelligently runs to maintain a humidity level between 45%-55%. The compressor and fan will operate based on the room's current humidity relative to the set point.
- Continuous Mode: The unit will run continuously regardless of the humidity level, ideal for quickly drying clothes or in very damp conditions.
- Desired Humidity Button: Use to adjust the target humidity level (from 80% to 30%) in Auto mode.
- Digital Display: Shows current humidity levels, timer duration, and other settings.
- Fan Speed Button: Select between High and Low fan speeds.
- Inside Drying Key: Activates an internal drying cycle (recommended before storage).
- Timer Button: Set a delayed power-on/off time (0-24 hours).
- Tank Full Indicator: Illuminates when the water bucket is full and needs to be emptied. The unit will automatically shut off.
4.2 Drainage Options
Your dehumidifier offers two convenient drainage methods:
- Manual Drain: The unit collects water in its 0.33 Gallon removable water reservoir. When the bucket is full, the unit will automatically shut off, and the 'Tank Full' indicator will light up. Empty the bucket and reinsert it to resume operation.
- Auto Drain (Continuous Drainage): For continuous operation without emptying the bucket, connect the included 23.6-inch gravity drain hose to the drain port at the back of the unit. Route the hose to a suitable drain (e.g., floor drain, sink) ensuring it is sloped downwards for gravity flow.

Figure 4.2: Two Optional Draining Methods
This image illustrates both automatic and manual drainage options. The 'Auto' section shows the dehumidifier connected to a drain hose for continuous gravity drainage. The 'Manual' section shows the water tank removed from the unit, indicating the 0.53 Gallon capacity and overflow protection.
4.3 Other Functions
- Auto Defrost: The unit automatically detects frost buildup on the evaporator coils and initiates a defrost cycle to ensure efficient operation.
- Power Outage Auto Restart: In case of a power interruption, the dehumidifier will automatically resume operation with its previous settings once power is restored.
5. Maintenance and Care
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your dehumidifier.
5.1 Cleaning the Filters
The removable PP filter and Activated Carbon filter should be cleaned regularly (e.g., every two weeks or more often depending on usage and air quality) to maintain efficiency.
- Turn off the dehumidifier and unplug it from the power outlet.
- Remove the filter frame from the back of the unit (refer to Figure 3.1).
- Separate the PP filter and Activated Carbon filter from the frame.
- Clean the PP filter by rinsing it under running water or using a vacuum cleaner.
- The Activated Carbon filter can be gently vacuumed to remove dust. Do not wash the Activated Carbon filter with water.
- Allow the PP filter to air dry completely before reinserting.
- Reassemble the filters into the frame and slide it back into the unit.
5.2 Emptying the Water Bucket
When using manual drainage, empty the water bucket when the 'Tank Full' indicator illuminates.
- Gently pull out the water bucket from the front of the unit.
- Carefully pour out the collected water.
- Slide the empty bucket back into the unit until it clicks into place. The unit will resume operation.
5.3 Storage
Before storing the dehumidifier for an extended period:
- Empty the water bucket and ensure it is clean and dry.
- Run the 'Inside Drying' function for at least 30 minutes to dry out the internal components and prevent mold or mildew growth inside the unit.
- Clean the filters as described above.
- Unplug the unit and coil the power cord neatly.
- Store the dehumidifier upright in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your dehumidifier, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Dehumidifier does not turn on. | No power; Power cord not plugged in; Water bucket full or not properly inserted. | Check power connection; Ensure bucket is empty and correctly seated. |
| Unit is running but not collecting water. | Room humidity is too low; Temperature is too low (below 41°F/5°C); Air filter is clogged; Unit is in defrost mode. | Increase desired humidity setting; Ensure room temperature is within operating range; Clean air filter; Wait for defrost cycle to complete. |
| Unit is noisy. | Unit is not on a level surface; Air filter is clogged; Fan obstruction. | Place on a flat, stable surface; Clean air filter; Check for obstructions around fan. |
| Unit emits warm air. | Normal operation. | Dehumidifiers naturally produce warm air as part of the dehumidification process. This is not a malfunction. |
| Water leaks from the unit. | Water bucket not properly inserted; Drain hose connection is loose or clogged (if using continuous drainage). | Reinsert water bucket correctly; Check drain hose connection and ensure it's not kinked or blocked. |
If the problem persists after trying these solutions, please contact Shinco customer support.
