2. Safety Information
WARNING: Always follow proper firearm safety rules. Treat every firearm as if it were loaded. Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
- Ensure the holster is securely mounted to your belt before use.
- Practice drawing and re-holstering with an unloaded firearm in a safe environment.
- Verify that the Automatic Locking System (ALS) engages properly each time the firearm is holstered.
- Do not modify the holster. Any modifications may compromise its retention capabilities and safety features.
- Regularly inspect the holster for wear, damage, or obstructions that could affect its function.
3. Setup and Installation
The 6395RDS holster is designed for use with a 2.25-inch duty belt. An Allen wrench is included for adjustments.
- Belt Attachment:
Thread your 2.25-inch duty belt through the UPL (Universal Belt Loop) attachment on the back of the holster. Ensure the holster is positioned comfortably and securely on your hip, typically on the strong side.

- Cant Adjustment (if applicable):
Some Safariland holsters allow for cant adjustment. If your model supports this, use the provided Allen wrench to loosen the screws securing the UPL to the holster body. Adjust to your preferred angle and re-tighten the screws firmly.
- Retention Adjustment:
The ALS system provides automatic retention. However, passive retention can sometimes be adjusted via a tension screw located near the trigger guard area (if present on your specific model). Use the Allen wrench for minor adjustments. Do not overtighten.
4. Operating Instructions
This holster features the Automatic Locking System (ALS) and a Red Dot Sight (RDS) protective cover.
- Holstering the Firearm:
With an unloaded firearm, carefully insert the weapon into the holster. You will hear and feel a positive "click" as the ALS mechanism engages, securing the firearm in place. Gently pull on the firearm to confirm it is locked.
- Drawing the Firearm:
To draw, firmly grasp the firearm's grip. With your thumb, depress the ALS release lever located on the inside of the holster, adjacent to the firearm's slide. While depressing the lever, draw the firearm straight up and out of the holster. The RDS protective cover will automatically rotate away during the draw stroke.
Practice this motion repeatedly with an unloaded firearm until it becomes fluid and intuitive.
5. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable function of your Safariland holster.
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the holster with a damp cloth to remove dirt, dust, and debris. For stubborn grime, a mild soap solution can be used, followed by rinsing with clean water and thorough drying.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect the ALS mechanism, RDS cover, and belt attachment for any signs of wear, cracks, or damage. Ensure all screws are tight.
- Lubrication: The ALS mechanism generally does not require lubrication. If it feels stiff, ensure it is clean and free of debris. Avoid using oil-based lubricants as they can attract dirt.
- Storage: Store the holster in a clean, dry environment away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.
6. Troubleshooting
- Firearm does not fit or is difficult to holster/draw:
- Verify that your firearm (FN 509 with Surefire X300U) and Red Dot Sight are compatible with the 6395RDS-2702-551 model.
- Important Compatibility Note: Safariland cannot assure that RDS holsters will be compatible with non-factory (e.g., Glock MOS, M&P CORE) mounted red dots. Numerous variables including depth of RDS into slide, use of dovetail, and placement on slide can affect the fit. This holster is specifically not compatible with the Trijicon SRO optic.
- Check for any obstructions inside the holster.
- Ensure any passive retention screws (if present) are not overtightened.
- ALS mechanism is stiff or not engaging:
- Clean the ALS lever and surrounding area to remove any dirt or debris.
- Ensure the firearm is fully seated in the holster.
- RDS protective cover is not rotating smoothly:
- Inspect the cover for any physical damage or obstructions.
- Clean the pivot points of the cover.
