Setup Guide

2. Connect Power: Plug the power adapter into the power port on the back of the Cricut Joy, then plug the other end into a wall outlet. The machine will power on automatically.
3. Install Cricut Design Space: Download and install the Cricut Design Space application on your computer or mobile device. Visit design.cricut.com to get started.
4. Pair via Bluetooth:
   • Open Cricut Design Space and sign in or create a Cricut ID.
   • Follow the on-screen prompts to set up a new machine.
   • Select "Cricut Joy" from the list of machines.
   • Enable Bluetooth on your device and select your Cricut Joy from the available devices. The machine's name will typically be "Cricut Joy-XXXX".
   • Complete the setup process, which may include a test cut.
5. Loading Materials:
   • For Smart Materials (without a mat): Align the material under the guides on the machine. The machine will automatically detect and load the material.
   • For Mat-based Materials: Place your material onto the cutting mat, ensuring it adheres firmly. Align the mat under the guides and gently push it into the machine. The machine will automatically detect and load the mat.

Operating Instructions

Learn how to create and execute projects using your Cricut Joy.

1. Design Your Project:
   • Open Cricut Design Space.
   • Start a new project or select a ready-to-make project.
   • Customize your design using text, shapes, images, and fonts.
   • Ensure your design fits within the maximum cutting area for your chosen material (e.g., 4.5 inches wide for Smart Materials).
2. Prepare for Cutting/Writing:
   • Click "Make It" in Design Space.
   • Select your material load type (Without Mat, On Mat, or Card Mat).
   • Review the project preview screen. If using Smart Materials, ensure the design is oriented correctly.
   • Select your material setting (e.g., Smart Vinyl, Cardstock).
   • Load the appropriate tool (fine-point blade for cutting, Cricut Joy pen for writing) into the clamp.
3. Start the Project:
   • Load your material into the machine as described in the Setup section.
   • In Design Space, click the "Go" button. The Cricut Joy will begin cutting or writing.
   • Do not touch the material or machine during operation.
4. Unloading Materials:
   • Once the project is complete, Design Space will prompt you to unload the material.
   • Click "Unload" in Design Space. The machine will release the material.
   • Carefully remove your cut design from the material or mat.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Cricut Joy.

• Cleaning the Machine:
  • Unplug the machine before cleaning.
  • Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the exterior of the machine.
  • Gently remove any small debris or material scraps from the cutting area using tweezers or a soft brush. Do not use liquids or abrasive cleaners.
• Blade Replacement:
  • When cuts become less precise, it may be time to replace the blade.
  • Open the clamp and carefully remove the blade housing.
  • Press the plunger on top of the housing to expose the blade, then carefully pull out the old blade.
  • Insert a new Cricut Joy Fine-Point Blade into the housing.
  • Reinsert the blade housing into the clamp until it clicks into place.
• Mat Care:
  • Keep mats covered with the clear protective sheet when not in use to prevent dust and debris accumulation.
  • If a mat loses its stickiness, gently clean it with warm water and mild soap, then air dry. Avoid scrubbing.
  • Replace mats when they no longer hold material securely.
