Setup and Installation

The PARKVISION PAL-142 camera is designed for easy, no-drill installation. Follow these steps for optimal setup.

1. Choose Installation Location

Select a suitable location on your vehicle for the camera. Common locations include:

  • Rear: Above the license plate, on the bumper, or tailgate.
  • Sides: Under side mirrors or on fenders.
  • Front: On the front bumper or grille.

Ensure the chosen spot provides a clear view and allows for cable routing.

2. Mount the Camera

  1. Clean the chosen surface thoroughly with alcohol to ensure strong adhesion.
  2. Peel off the protective film from the pre-applied 3M adhesive on the camera base.
  3. Firmly press the camera onto the desired location for at least 30 seconds.
  4. Allow the adhesive to cure for a few hours before driving, if possible, for maximum bond strength.

3. Wiring Connections

Refer to the wiring diagram provided in the package contents image.

  1. Video Connection: Connect the yellow RCA connector from the camera's video extension cable to the video input (usually yellow RCA) on your LCD monitor or head unit.
  2. Power Connection:
    • Black Wire: Connect to vehicle ground (GND).
    • Red Wire: Connect to a 12V DC power source. For a rear camera, connect to the reverse light power (DC +12V) so it activates when reversing. For a continuous front or side camera, connect to an accessory power source that turns on with the ignition.
  3. Reverse Trigger Wire (for double DIN head units): If your head unit has a "Reverse Trigger Wire," connect the red wire from the power lead to this trigger wire. For standalone monitors, this connection is not needed.

Important: Ensure your display supports PAL/CVBS video format with an RCA interface.

Image Settings

The camera offers customizable image settings to suit your preferences and installation orientation.

Mirror/Normal Image Switching

By default, the camera outputs a mirror image, suitable for rear-view use. To switch to a normal (non-mirrored) image, locate the small blue wire loop on the camera cable and cut it. This is typically done for front-view camera applications.

Up-Down Inverted Image

If the camera is mounted upside down, you can invert the image vertically. Locate the small button on the cable module (often labeled "Flip Image" or similar) and press it to toggle the image orientation. After making this adjustment, disconnect power for 3 seconds and then reconnect for the change to take effect.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Gently wipe the camera lens with a soft, damp cloth to remove dirt or water spots. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Inspection: Periodically check the camera's mounting for security and the cables for any signs of wear or damage.
  • Weather Resistance: The camera is IP68 waterproof, designed to withstand various weather conditions. However, avoid direct high-pressure water jets on the camera.
