5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Wire Stripping
- Select the Correct Gauge: Identify the American Wire Gauge (AWG) of the wire you intend to strip. The stripping jaws are marked with various AWG sizes for both solid and stranded wire (10-22 AWG).
- Position the Wire: Place the wire into the corresponding stripping hole on the jaws. Ensure the wire insulation is fully seated in the correct groove.
- Squeeze Handles: Firmly squeeze the handles together. The sharp edges of the stripping jaws will cut through the insulation without damaging the conductor.
- Remove Insulation: Once the insulation is cut, pull the wire stripper away from the wire while maintaining pressure on the handles to remove the stripped insulation.

6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: After each use, wipe the tool clean with a dry cloth to remove any debris or residue.
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of light machine oil to the pivot points and spring to ensure smooth operation.
- Storage: Store the wire stripper in a dry place with the safety lock engaged to protect the cutting edges and prevent accidental injury.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect the jaws for wear or damage. Do not use the tool if the cutting or stripping edges are dull or chipped.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Wire insulation not stripping cleanly. | Incorrect gauge hole selected; dull stripping jaws. | Ensure the correct AWG hole is used. If jaws are dull, consider replacing the tool. |
| Wire conductor is nicked or cut during stripping. | Incorrect gauge hole selected (too small); excessive force applied. | Use the correct AWG hole. Apply firm but not excessive pressure. |
| Handles are stiff or difficult to open/close. | Lack of lubrication; dirt/debris in pivot. | Clean the tool and apply light machine oil to pivot points and spring. |
