4.1 Unpacking and Inspection

Carefully remove the generator and all accessories from the packaging. Inspect the unit for any damage that may have occurred during shipping. If any parts are missing or damaged, contact customer support immediately.

4.2 Wheel and Handle Assembly

Attach the never-flat wheels and extendable handle to the generator unit. Refer to the owner's manual for specific instructions and diagrams for proper assembly.

4.3 Adding Engine Oil

Your generator is shipped without engine oil. It is critical to add the correct amount and type of oil before starting the engine.

  1. Place the generator on a level surface.
  2. Locate and remove the oil dipstick/fill cap.
  3. Using the provided oil funnel, slowly add 0.12 gallons (approximately 0.45 liters) of SAE 10W-30 engine oil.
  4. Check the oil level using the dipstick. Do not overfill. The oil level should be at the top mark on the dipstick.
  5. Securely replace the oil dipstick/fill cap.

4.4 Adding Fuel (Gasoline or Propane)

The G450RN is a dual-fuel generator, capable of running on gasoline or propane.

For Gasoline Operation:

  1. Ensure the generator is turned off and cool.
  2. Remove the fuel tank cap.
  3. Fill the fuel tank with fresh, unleaded gasoline (E10 or less ethanol content). Do not overfill; leave space for expansion. The fuel tank capacity is 3.2 gallons.
  4. Securely replace the fuel tank cap.

For Propane Operation:

  1. Connect a standard propane tank (not included) to the generator's propane inlet using the appropriate hose and regulator (typically included with the generator or propane tank).
  2. Ensure all connections are tight and leak-free.
  3. Slowly open the valve on the propane tank.

4.5 Battery Connection

For electric start and remote start functionality, ensure the internal battery is properly connected. Refer to the owner's manual for specific instructions on connecting the battery terminals, as they may be disconnected for shipping.

5.2 Starting the Generator

Ensure the generator is on a level surface and all initial setup steps (oil, fuel, battery) are complete.

Using Electric Start:

  1. Select desired fuel type (Gasoline or Propane) using the fuel selector switch.
  2. Turn the engine switch to the 'CHOKE' position (if cold starting).
  3. Press and hold the electric start button until the engine starts.
  4. Once started, slowly move the engine switch to the 'RUN' position.

Using Remote Start:

  1. Ensure the generator's main power switch is in the 'ON' position.
  2. Select desired fuel type (Gasoline or Propane).
  3. Press the 'START' button on the remote fob. The generator will attempt to start.

5.3 Eco Mode Operation

Engage the Eco Mode switch to optimize fuel consumption. In Eco Mode, the engine speed adjusts automatically to the load, reducing noise and saving fuel when less power is required.

5.4 Connecting Appliances

Once the generator is running, you can connect your electrical devices to the appropriate outlets. Ensure the total wattage of connected devices does not exceed the generator's running wattage (3700W).

  • 120V 20Amp Duplex Outlets: For standard household appliances.
  • 120V 30Amp RV Outlet: For RVs and larger appliances.
  • 12V DC 8Amp Outlet: For charging 12V batteries.
  • USB Outlets: For charging cellular devices and other sensitive electronics.

5.5 Parallel Operation

The G450RN is parallel capable, allowing you to connect two identical units for increased power output. A parallel kit (sold separately) is required.

  1. Ensure both generators are off and cool.
  2. Connect the parallel kit cables to the designated parallel ports on both generators.
  3. Start both generators according to the instructions.
  4. Once both are running, you can connect your load to the outlets on the parallel kit.

5.6 Stopping the Generator

  1. Disconnect all electrical loads from the generator.
  2. Allow the generator to run for a few minutes without load to cool down.
  3. Turn the engine switch to the 'OFF' position.
  4. If using propane, close the valve on the propane tank.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of your generator.

6.1 Regular Checks

  • Before each use, check the engine oil level and fuel level.
  • Inspect the air filter for dirt and debris. Clean or replace as needed.
  • Check the spark plug for wear and proper gap.

6.2 Oil Change

Change the engine oil after the first 20 hours of operation, and then every 100 hours or annually, whichever comes first.

  1. Run the engine for a few minutes to warm the oil, then shut it off.
  2. Place a drain pan beneath the oil drain plug.
  3. Remove the oil dipstick and the oil drain plug to drain the oil.
  4. Once drained, replace the oil drain plug and add fresh SAE 10W-30 oil as described in Section 4.3.

6.3 Spark Plug Maintenance

Inspect the spark plug every 100 hours or annually. Clean or replace if necessary.

  1. Remove the spark plug cap.
  2. Use the provided spark plug wrench to remove the spark plug.
  3. Inspect for carbon buildup or damage. Clean with a wire brush or replace.
  4. Ensure the gap is correct (refer to specifications).
  5. Reinstall the spark plug and cap.

6.4 Storage

For long-term storage, prepare the generator to prevent fuel degradation and engine damage.

  • Drain the fuel tank and carburetor (for gasoline).
  • Add fuel stabilizer if not draining all fuel.
  • Change the engine oil.
  • Remove the spark plug and pour a small amount of engine oil into the cylinder, then slowly pull the recoil starter a few times to distribute the oil. Reinstall the spark plug.
  • Store in a clean, dry place.
