2. Safety Information

Always prioritize safety when handling batteries. Failure to follow safety guidelines can result in injury or damage to the battery and connected equipment.

  • Do not disassemble, puncture, or modify the battery.
  • Avoid short-circuiting the battery terminals.

3. Setup and Installation

The CHINS 12V 20AH battery is designed for easy installation due to its compact size and lightweight nature. It can be safely mounted in any position as it contains no acid.

3.1 Terminal Connections

The battery is equipped with M6 terminals for secure connections. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent arcing and ensure optimal performance.

3.2 Protective Caps

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Charging the Battery

The CHINS LiFePO4 battery supports fast charging and solar panel charging. It is crucial to use a charger compatible with LiFePO4 batteries.

4.2 BMS Functionality

The built-in Battery Management System (BMS) controls the charging and discharging functions, protecting the battery from various electrical issues. If the battery cannot be charged or discharged, refer to the troubleshooting section for BMS activation.

4.3 MPPT and Inverter Settings

For optimal performance with MPPT charge controllers and inverters, use the following recommended settings:

  • Charging:
    • Charging Limit Voltage: 14.2V ~ 14.4V
    • Over Voltage Disconnect Voltage: 14.6V
    • Over Voltage Reconnect Voltage: 13.8V
    • Float Charging Voltage: 13.8V
  • Discharging:
    • Low Voltage Disconnect Voltage: 11.6V
    • Low Voltage Reconnect Voltage: 12.4V
    • Under Voltage Warning Voltage: 12.8V

5. Maintenance

  • Regular Inspection: Periodically check battery terminals for corrosion or loose connections. Clean as necessary.
  • Storage: For long-term storage, ensure the battery is charged to approximately 50% of its capacity. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. The battery has an excessive low self-discharge rate, ensuring up to 1 year of maintenance-free storage.
  • Temperature: Operate and store the battery within its specified temperature ranges to prevent damage and ensure optimal performance.
  • Charging: Always use a dedicated LiFePO4 charger. Avoid overcharging or deep discharging the battery, although the built-in BMS provides protection against these conditions.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 Battery Voltage Below 10V and Cannot Charge

If the battery voltage drops below 10V, the built-in BMS may have activated its low voltage protection, preventing further charging or discharging. To reactivate the BMS and restore normal function, follow one of these methods:

  1. Solar Panel Activation: Use an 18V/24V/36V solar photovoltaic panel to charge the battery directly (do not connect MPPT). When the battery voltage reaches around 11V, the battery's BMS will be activated. (It is also possible to use a 12V/24V/36V solar PV panel to activate the battery's BMS.)
  2. Special Charger Activation: Use a 14.6V special charger for lithium iron phosphate batteries (with 0V charging function) to charge the battery. When the battery voltage reaches about 11V, the BMS of the battery can also be activated.
  3. Parallel Connection Activation: If you have another identical battery with a voltage higher than 13V, you can connect the two batteries in parallel. When the low voltage battery reaches around 11V, its BMS will also be activated.
