Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for the optimal performance and longevity of your Pentair D.E. filter. It is recommended to consult a qualified pool professional for installation if you are unsure about any steps.
General Installation Steps:
- Site Selection: Choose a level, well-drained area for the filter, ensuring adequate clearance for maintenance and access to plumbing.
- Plumbing Connections: Connect the filter to your pool's pump and return lines using appropriate PVC piping and fittings. Ensure all connections are secure and watertight.
- Valve Installation: Install the compatible multi-port or push-pull valve (sold separately) according to its specific instructions.
- Pressure Gauge: Install the pressure gauge on the top of the filter tank.
- Initial Startup: Follow the initial startup procedure outlined in the Operating Instructions section to properly charge the filter with D.E. powder.

Operating Instructions
Once installed, operate your Pentair D.E. filter by turning on your pool pump. The filter will begin circulating water, trapping microscopic particles with the D.E. powder on the cartridges. Monitor the pressure gauge regularly.
Initial Filter Startup:
- Ensure the return line is open.
- Stand clear of the filter. Start the pump.
- Make sure water is returning to the pool. Note the clean filter pressure gauge reading.
- Add the recommended amount of D.E. powder to the skimmer while the pump is running.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures efficient filtration and extends the life of your filter. The D.E. filter requires periodic cleaning of its cartridges.
Cartridge Cleaning:
- Stop the pump. Open the air relief valve to release pressure.
- Remove the clamp and top of the filter tank.
- Remove the manifold and individual filter cartridges.
- The filter cartridges can be cleaned by hosing them down with a direct spray at a proper angle to dislodge D.E. and debris.
- Reassemble the cartridges and manifold, ensuring proper alignment.
- Replace the top and tighten the clamp securely.
- Follow the Initial Filter Startup procedure to recharge with D.E. powder.
NOTE: If operating pressure rises 8-10 PSI above the clean filter pressure, or if the flow rate decreases, it's time to clean the filter cartridges.
NOTE: The filter should be manually cleaned at least once per swimming season, or more frequently depending on usage and water conditions.

Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your filter, refer to the following common troubleshooting tips:
- Low Flow/High Pressure: This usually indicates dirty filter cartridges. Perform a cartridge cleaning as described in the Maintenance section.
- Cloudy Water: Ensure proper D.E. powder levels. Check for damaged cartridges or a faulty manifold. Verify chemical balance of the pool water.
- Leaking: Inspect all plumbing connections, O-rings, and the filter tank clamp for proper seating and tightness.
For persistent issues, contact Pentair customer support or a certified pool technician.
