1. Introduction

The Ring Access Controller Pro 2 is designed to provide smart access control for your electrical gate or door. This device allows for remote management, integration with other Ring products, and secure delivery options, enhancing the security and convenience of your property access.

2. Safety Information

Professional Installation Recommended: Installation of the Ring Access Controller Pro 2 involves electrical wiring. For optimal safety and compliance with local building codes and electrical best practices, professional installation is strongly recommended. Incorrect installation can lead to property damage, injury, or device malfunction.

Indoor Installation: This device is not weather resistant. It must be installed indoors or within a weatherproof enclosure (sold separately) if placed outdoors to prevent damage from environmental elements.

Power Requirements: Ensure the power source meets the specified requirements (USB – 5VDC/0.1A or Terminal – 10-24VAC/DC) to avoid damage to the device.

5. Setup and Installation

Installation of the Ring Access Controller Pro 2 involves connecting it to your existing gate or door opener system. Due to the electrical nature of this process, professional installation is highly recommended.

5.1 Physical Installation

  1. Mount the Device: Choose a suitable indoor location or a weatherproof enclosure if outdoors. Use the provided double-sided mounting tape to secure the device.
  2. Wire Connections: Connect the 8-pin screw-type plug-in connector to your gate controller. Refer to the included installation guide for specific wiring diagrams for your gate system. Ensure all connections are secure and correctly aligned.
  3. Connect Power: Use the USB 5V DC wall supply and Micro USB cable to power the device, or connect via the terminal (10-24VAC/DC).
  4. Antenna Placement: Attach the puck antenna to the device for optimal cellular connectivity.

5.2 Connectivity

The Access Controller Pro 2 supports both Ethernet and onboard eSIM (cellular) for connectivity. It will automatically attempt to connect via Ethernet if available, otherwise, it will use the cellular network.

  • Ethernet: If using an Ethernet connection, plug an RJ45 cable (up to 3 meters) into the device.
  • Cellular: The device includes an onboard eSIM for cellular connectivity, providing worldwide coverage (LTE CAT-M1 with GPRS/2G fallback) at no additional cost.

5.3 App Setup and Activation

After physical installation and power-up, complete the setup using the Ring app:

  1. Download the Ring App: If you haven't already, download the Ring app from your device's app store.
  2. Add Device: Open the Ring app, tap the menu icon (three lines) in the top left corner, and select "Set Up a Device." Follow the in-app instructions to add your Access Controller Pro 2.
  3. Contact Support: During the app setup process, you will be prompted to call Ring support to finalize the activation and link the device to your account. This step is crucial for enabling remote functionality.

6. Operation

Once installed and activated, the Ring Access Controller Pro 2 provides several features for managing your gate or door.

6.1 Remote Gate Management

Control your electric gate remotely from the Ring app. You can open and close your gate from anywhere, providing convenience and security.

6.2 Shared Access

Authorize additional users to control your gate through the Shared Access feature in the Ring app. This allows family members, friends, or service providers to operate the gate as needed.

6.3 Integration with Ring Products

The Access Controller Pro 2 works with your existing Ring Video Doorbell or Security Camera. When someone is at your gate, you can see and speak to them through your Ring camera and then remotely open the gate via the Ring app.

6.4 Amazon Key In-Gate Delivery

Enable Amazon Key In-Gate Delivery to allow eligible Amazon deliveries to be placed safely inside your gate. This feature requires authorization through the Amazon Key service.

7. Maintenance

The Ring Access Controller Pro 2 requires minimal maintenance. Regularly inspect the device and its connections for any signs of wear or damage. Ensure the area around the device is clean and free from obstructions. If installed outdoors in a weatherproof enclosure, periodically check the enclosure for integrity.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Ring Access Controller Pro 2, consider the following:

  • Device Not Responding: Check the power connection. Ensure the USB cable or terminal wiring is secure and the power supply is active.
  • Connectivity Issues: If using Ethernet, verify the cable is properly connected to a working network port. If relying on cellular, ensure the puck antenna is securely attached and positioned for optimal signal reception.
  • App Control Problems: Confirm your smartphone has an active internet connection. Ensure the Ring app is updated to the latest version. If the device was recently installed, confirm that the activation call with Ring support was completed successfully.
  • Gate Not Opening/Closing: Verify the wiring to your gate controller is correct and secure. Consult your gate controller's manual for its specific input requirements.
  • Delayed Response: Some delay (up to 10 seconds) between app command and gate action can occur due to network conditions. If delays are excessive, check your internet connection or cellular signal strength.
