Safariland Model 6378 ALS Holster Instruction Manual

For M&P 9/40 Tactical Black, Right Hand

Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and proper use, setup, and maintenance of your Safariland Model 6378 Automatic Locking System (ALS) Holster. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the product to ensure optimal performance and safety.

Safety Information

Always prioritize safety when handling firearms and related equipment. This holster is designed to securely retain your firearm, but proper training and adherence to safety protocols are paramount.

  • Ensure your firearm is unloaded before attempting to fit it into the holster or performing any adjustments.
  • Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.
  • Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire.
  • Regularly inspect the holster for any signs of wear or damage. Discontinue use if damage is found.
  • Practice drawing and re-holstering with an unloaded firearm in a safe environment.

Product Overview

The Safariland Model 6378 ALS Holster features the Automatic Locking System (ALS), which secures the firearm automatically upon holstering. This system provides a high level of retention while allowing for a fast, natural draw stroke once the release lever is deactivated.

Setup and Installation

Attaching to a Belt

The Model 6378 holster is designed for belt attachment. Ensure your belt is compatible with the holster's belt loop size.

  1. Thread your duty belt or everyday carry belt through the belt loop attachment on the back of the holster.
  2. Position the holster on your belt in a comfortable and accessible location, typically on the strong side hip.
  3. Secure your belt firmly to prevent the holster from shifting during use.

Adjusting Retention

While the ALS system provides automatic retention, some models may feature an adjustable tension screw to fine-tune the fit. Refer to Figure 1 for the location of the tension screw (if present).

  • With an unloaded firearm, carefully insert it into the holster.
  • If a tension screw is present, use an appropriate screwdriver to adjust it. Turn clockwise for tighter retention, counter-clockwise for looser retention.
  • Test the draw and retention to ensure the firearm is secure but can be drawn smoothly.

Operating Instructions

Holstering the Firearm

  1. Ensure the firearm is in a safe condition.
  2. Insert the firearm into the holster. The Automatic Locking System (ALS) will engage automatically, securing the firearm in place with an audible click.
  3. Gently pull on the firearm to confirm it is securely retained by the ALS.

Drawing the Firearm

  1. Establish a firm grip on the firearm's grip.
  2. With your thumb, press down firmly on the ALS release lever, located on the inside of the holster, adjacent to the firearm's slide.
  3. While maintaining pressure on the release lever, draw the firearm straight up and out of the holster.
  4. Practice this motion repeatedly with an unloaded firearm until it becomes fluid and natural.

Care and Maintenance

Proper care will extend the life and reliability of your Safariland holster.

  • Cleaning: Wipe down the holster regularly with a damp cloth to remove dirt, dust, and debris. For stubborn grime, a mild soap solution can be used, followed by a clean water rinse and thorough drying.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the holster for cracks, deformities, or excessive wear, especially around the ALS mechanism and belt attachment points.
  • Storage: Store the holster in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Avoid Chemicals: Do not use harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the holster's material and finish.
