1. Product Overview

The Cuisinart Coffee Center Grind & Brew Plus (SS-GB1) is a versatile 2-in-1 coffee system designed to deliver fresh, flavorful coffee. It features a built-in coffee grinder for whole beans, a 12-cup glass carafe for drip brewing, and a single-serve brewer compatible with K-Cup pods. This appliance offers convenience and customization for various coffee preferences.

2. Setup

2.1 Unpacking and Initial Cleaning

• Carefully remove all packaging materials and promotional labels from the coffee maker.
• Wash the carafe, carafe lid, filter basket, and single-serve drip tray in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. These components are generally top-rack dishwasher safe.
• Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a clean, damp cloth.

2.2 Water Filter Installation

• Locate the water filter holder in the water reservoir.
• Soak the charcoal water filter in cold tap water for 15 minutes.
• Insert the filter into the holder and snap it into place.

2.3 Placement

Place the coffee maker on a flat, stable surface near an electrical outlet. Ensure adequate clearance above the unit for opening the lids.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Brewing a Carafe (Grind & Brew)

1. Open the grinder lid and add whole coffee beans to the grinder chamber. Fill up to the desired cup line (e.g., 1 tablespoon per cup).
2. Ensure the filter basket with a paper filter (or reusable filter) is correctly seated in the carafe brew chamber.
3. Fill the water reservoir with fresh, cold water up to the desired cup marking on the side of the unit.
4. Place the empty carafe on the warming plate.
5. Select the desired number of cups and brew strength (e.g., Bold).
6. Press the 'Brew/Off' button to start. The unit will automatically grind the beans, then brew the coffee.

3.2 Brewing a Carafe (Pre-Ground Coffee)

1. Open the carafe brew chamber lid and add pre-ground coffee to the filter basket.
2. Fill the water reservoir with fresh, cold water up to the desired cup marking.
3. Place the empty carafe on the warming plate.
4. Press the 'Grind Off' button to illuminate the indicator light, disabling the grinder.
5. Select the desired number of cups and brew strength.
6. Press the 'Brew/Off' button to start.

3.3 Single-Serve Brewing

1. Lift the single-serve lid and insert a K-Cup compatible pod into the brew chamber.
2. Fill the single-serve water reservoir (40 oz capacity) with fresh, cold water.
3. Place your mug on the drip tray. The drip tray is removable and adjustable to accommodate travel mugs.
4. Select your desired serving size (8 oz, 10 oz, or 12 oz).
5. Press the 'Pod' button to start brewing.

3.4 Programmable Brewing

The unit features a 24-hour advance brew start. Use the 'Prog', 'HR', and 'MIN' buttons to set the desired brew time. The 'Auto On' indicator will light up when programmed.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Daily Cleaning

• After each use, remove and discard any used coffee grounds and paper filter.
• Wash the carafe, carafe lid, filter basket, and single-serve drip tray in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly.
• For grind & brew, remove the grinder assembly and clean it to prevent clogs and ensure optimal performance.
• Wipe down the exterior of the unit with a damp cloth.

4.2 Descaling

Over time, mineral deposits (calcium) can build up in your coffee maker. The 'Clean' indicator light will illuminate when descaling is recommended. To descale:

1. Fill the water reservoir with a mixture of 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water.
2. Press the 'Clean' button. The unit will run a cleaning cycle.
3. After the cycle, run 2-3 cycles with fresh, cold water to rinse thoroughly.

4.3 Water Filter Replacement

Replace the charcoal water filter every 60 days or after 60 uses, or more often if you have hard water.

5. Troubleshooting

• Coffee not brewing: Ensure the unit is plugged in, the water reservoir is filled, and all lids/components are properly seated. Check if the 'Brew/Off' button is pressed.
• Weak coffee: Adjust brew strength setting to 'Bold'. Ensure correct coffee-to-water ratio. For grind & brew, check bean level.
• Grinder not working: Ensure the grinder lid is properly closed and the grinder assembly is correctly inserted. Check if 'Grind Off' is accidentally activated.
• Overflowing filter basket: Use the correct amount of coffee grounds. Ensure the filter basket is not overfilled. Clean the grinder chute if using whole beans.
• Inadequate pressure for brew (espresso-like issue, but for drip): As noted by the manufacturer, too coarse a grind, too little coffee, or insufficiently tamping the grounds before brewing can lead to inadequate pressure. Adjust grind size and coffee amount.
