Setup and First Use

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the coffee maker from its packaging. Remove all packing materials, labels, and stickers.
  2. Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash the glass carafe and the swing-out brew basket in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a damp cloth.
  3. First Brew Cycle (Cleaning):
    • Fill the water reservoir with cold water up to the 5-cup mark.
    • Place the empty swing-out brew basket into its position. Do not add coffee grounds.
    • Place the glass carafe with its lid on the warming plate.
    • Plug the coffee maker into a standard electrical outlet.
    • Press the illuminated power switch to turn the unit on. Allow the full cycle to complete.
    • Discard the water from the carafe. Repeat this process once or twice to ensure the system is clean.

Operating Instructions

  1. Prepare for Brewing:
    • Ensure the coffee maker is unplugged.
    • Open the flip top lid and fill the water reservoir with the desired amount of cold water using the glass carafe. Refer to the water level markings on the carafe and the full view water window. Do not exceed the 5-cup maximum fill line.
    • Swing out the brew basket. Insert a standard basket-style paper filter or use the reusable filter (if included).
    • Add the desired amount of ground coffee into the filter. A general guideline is one level tablespoon of ground coffee per cup, but adjust to your personal taste.
    • Close the swing-out brew basket securely.
    • Place the glass carafe with its lid firmly on the warming plate. Ensure it is properly seated to activate the "Pause and Serve" function.
  2. Start Brewing:
    • Plug the power cord into a standard 120V AC electrical outlet.
    • Press the illuminated power switch to the "ON" position. The light will illuminate, indicating that the brewing cycle has begun.
  3. Pause and Serve Function:
    • This feature allows you to pour a cup of coffee before the brewing cycle is complete. Simply remove the carafe from the warming plate. The flow of coffee will temporarily stop.
    • Return the carafe to the warming plate within 20 seconds to prevent overflow from the brew basket. Brewing will resume automatically.
  4. After Brewing:
    • Once the brewing cycle is complete, the coffee maker will automatically switch to the "keep warm" mode. The illuminated power switch will remain lit.
    • For optimal coffee flavor, do not keep coffee on the warming plate for more than one hour.
    • To turn off the coffee maker, press the illuminated power switch to the "OFF" position. Unplug the appliance from the outlet when not in use.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Regular cleaning helps maintain the performance and longevity of your coffee maker.

Daily Cleaning:

  1. Always unplug the coffee maker and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  2. Remove the glass carafe and the swing-out brew basket. Discard used coffee grounds and filter.
  3. Wash the carafe and brew basket in warm, soapy water. These parts are also top-rack dishwasher safe. Rinse thoroughly.
  4. Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker, warming plate, and water reservoir area with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
  5. Never immerse the main unit, cord, or plug in water or any other liquid.

Decalcification (Mineral Deposit Removal):

Mineral deposits (calcium) can build up in your coffee maker over time, affecting its performance and coffee taste. Decalcify your coffee maker every 80 brew cycles or at least once a month, more often if you have hard water.

  1. Fill the carafe with one part white vinegar and two parts cold water.
  2. Pour the vinegar-water mixture into the water reservoir.
  3. Place a paper filter (without coffee grounds) in the brew basket and close it.
  4. Place the empty carafe on the warming plate.
  5. Turn on the coffee maker and allow half of the mixture to brew through.
  6. Turn off the coffee maker and let it stand for 15-20 minutes to allow the vinegar to work on the deposits.
  7. Turn the coffee maker back on and allow the remaining mixture to brew through.
  8. Discard the mixture from the carafe.
  9. Run 2-3 full cycles of clean cold water through the coffee maker to rinse out any remaining vinegar taste or odor.
