5. Operation
5.1. Connecting to Your Computer
- Connect the power adapter to the enclosure's power interface and plug it into a power outlet.
- Connect the appropriate USB cable (USB-A to USB-B or USB-A to USB-C, depending on your computer's port) from the enclosure to your computer.
- Press the power button on the rear of the enclosure to turn it on. The hard drive indicator lights on the front will illuminate.
5.2. Data Transfer
Once connected and powered on, your computer should detect the hard drives. You can then transfer data to and from the drives as you would with any external storage device. The enclosure supports high-speed data transfer up to 5Gbps.
5.3. Hard Drive Formatting and Partitioning
New hard drives or drives that are not recognized by your operating system may need to be formatted and partitioned. Refer to the video below for a step-by-step guide.
Video: Operation Guide for Hard Drive Formatting Partition
This video provides a detailed guide on how to format and partition hard drives in both Windows and Mac OS systems, making them ready for use with your enclosure.
Important Note: The ORICO NS800C3 model does not support RAID functionality. The RAID management software shown in some general ORICO videos is for other models. This enclosure operates in JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks) mode, where each drive is recognized independently.

7. Troubleshooting
- Drives Not Detected:
- Ensure all cables (power and USB) are securely connected.
- Verify the enclosure is powered on.
- Check Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (Mac) to see if the drives appear as unallocated space. If so, they may need to be initialized, formatted, and partitioned.
- Try connecting the enclosure to a different USB port or computer to rule out port/computer issues.
- Ensure the hard drives themselves are functional by testing them in another enclosure or directly in a computer.
- Slow Data Transfer Speeds:
- Ensure you are using a USB 3.0 (or higher) port on your computer. USB 2.0 ports will result in significantly slower speeds.
- Check the quality of your USB cable. Use the provided ORICO cable or a high-quality replacement.
- Large file transfers are generally faster than many small files.
- Overheating Issues:
- Ensure the enclosure is placed in a well-ventilated area and that the fan vents are not obstructed.
- While the enclosure has cooling fans, continuous heavy load with multiple high-RPM drives can generate significant heat. Consider reducing the number of active drives if overheating persists.
- Power Issues with Multiple Drives:
- If the enclosure struggles to power on or recognize all 8 drives simultaneously, especially during spin-up, it might be due to insufficient power delivery. Try powering on with fewer drives initially, then insert additional drives one by one.
- Ensure you are using the original 12V/10A power supply provided with the unit.
- Activity Lights Incorrect:
- Some users have reported that the activity lights may be wired in reverse order (e.g., Disk 1 light corresponds to the last bay). This is a cosmetic issue and does not affect functionality.
8. Safety Information
- Do not expose the device to water or excessive humidity.
- Avoid dropping or subjecting the device to strong impacts.
- Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the device. This will void the warranty.
- Use only the provided power adapter. Using an incorrect adapter may damage the device.
- Keep the device away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.
- Ensure proper ventilation to prevent overheating.
