2. Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety warnings and instructions before assembling or operating this product. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious injury or property damage.

  • Weight Capacity: Do not exceed the maximum weight capacity of 600 lbs (272 kg). Overloading can cause structural failure and injury.
  • Stable Surface: Always use the dolly on a flat, level, and stable surface. Uneven surfaces can cause the dolly to tip.
  • Lock Casters: Always engage the locking casters when the dolly is stationary or when loading/unloading items to prevent accidental movement.
  • Proper Loading: Distribute the weight evenly on the dolly. Avoid placing heavy items on one side only.
  • Personal Protective Equipment: Wear appropriate safety gear, such as safety glasses and gloves, when handling heavy objects or assembling the dolly.
  • Pinch Points: Be aware of pinch points during assembly and adjustment. Keep hands and fingers clear of moving parts.
  • Children and Pets: Keep children and pets away from the work area during assembly and use.
  • Inspection: Before each use, inspect the dolly for any signs of damage, loose fasteners, or worn parts. Do not use if damaged.
  • Assembly: Ensure all bolts, nuts, and pins are securely fastened before use.

5. Operating Instructions

The JEGS 81243 Truck Bed Dolly is designed for ease of use and versatility.

  1. Prepare the Dolly: Ensure the dolly is on a stable, level surface. Unlock all four casters by disengaging their locking levers.
  2. Adjust Height and Length: Adjust the dolly's height and length to match the dimensions of the item you intend to place on it (truck bed, panel, hood). Ensure the item will sit securely and balanced on the support arms.
  3. Position the Dolly: Roll the dolly into the desired position.
  4. Lock Casters: Once positioned, engage the locking levers on all four casters to prevent the dolly from moving. This is crucial for safety during loading and unloading.
  5. Load Item: Carefully lift and place the truck bed, panel, or hood onto the dolly's support arms. Ensure the weight is evenly distributed. The rubber padding on the support arms helps prevent scratching and provides grip.
  6. Move Item (if necessary): To move the item, first ensure the path is clear. Unlock the casters. Slowly and carefully push or pull the dolly to the new location. Avoid sudden movements.
  7. Secure Item: Once at the new location, re-engage all caster locks.
  8. Unload Item: Carefully lift the item off the dolly.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance will ensure the longevity and safe operation of your JEGS Truck Bed Dolly.

  • Cleaning: Wipe down the dolly with a clean, damp cloth after each use to remove dirt, grease, or debris. Avoid harsh chemicals that could damage the paint finish.
  • Lubrication: Periodically apply a light lubricant to the caster swivel points and wheel axles to ensure smooth movement. Also, lubricate the adjustment pins and sliding mechanisms to prevent sticking.
  • Fastener Check: Regularly inspect all bolts, nuts, and pins for tightness. Re-tighten any loose fasteners to prevent wobbling or instability.
  • Caster Inspection: Check casters for wear, damage, or debris accumulation. Replace any worn or damaged casters immediately. Ensure the locking mechanisms function correctly.
  • Storage: When not in use, clean the dolly and fold it to its compact dimensions (refer to Figure 6.1). Store it in a dry, clean area away from extreme temperatures and corrosive materials.
