1. Powering On and LED Indication

Connect the RM4 pro to a 5V 1A USB power adapter (not included) using the provided USB cable. Observe the LED indicator on the device:

  • Blue LED (Flashing Intermittently): AP Setup mode. Flashes four times, then pauses for one second. This is the default mode for setup.
  • Blue LED (Flashing Quickly): Smart Setup mode. Flashes five times per second.
  • Orange LED: Indicates IR/RF signal learning or emitting.

  1. Download the BroadLink App from your device's app store (App Store for iOS, Google Play for Android).
  2. Open the app and tap on 'Add device' or the '+' icon.
  3. Accept the privacy terms and grant location permission when prompted.
  4. Select 'Add A New Device' and then choose 'Universal Remote' from the list of device types.
  5. Select 'RM4 pro' (or 'RM4 mini' if applicable, as shown in the video for demonstration) and tap 'Next'.
  6. The app will guide you to connect your phone to the device's Wi-Fi network (e.g., 'BroadLink_WiFi_Device'). After connecting, return to the BroadLink App.
  7. Input your home 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network name and password (up to 32 characters). Tap 'Connect now'.

Operating Instructions

1. Universal IR & RF Control

The RM4 pro can control over 50,000 IR-controlled devices (TV, STB, Air conditioner, Fan, Video Recorder, DVD) and RF 433MHz fixed code devices (curtain/shade motors, projectors, light switches). It does not support RF Rolling Code control devices.

  • Manual Learning: If a device is not in the cloud database, you can program the RM4 pro by manually learning signals from your original remote control.
  • One-Button Match: For common devices, the app offers a quick matching function.

3. Voice Control and IFTTT

The RM4 pro is compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT. This allows for hands-free control and advanced automation:

  • Voice Commands: Use simple voice commands to turn devices on/off, change TV channels, or adjust AC temperature.
  • IFTTT Integration: Create custom automation routines. For example, set triggers to automatically turn on your air conditioner when the temperature rises, or turn on a humidifier if humidity is low.

4. Scene and Routine Automation

Utilize the BroadLink app to create various timers, scenes, and routines for automated control of your appliances:

  • Scheduled Control: Schedule specific times for devices to turn on or off, such as turning on your TV to a favorite channel at a set time.
  • Scene Creation: Combine multiple actions into a single command or schedule, e.g., a 'Good Morning' scene that opens curtains and turns on the coffee maker.

5. Device Sharing

The app allows you to share control of the RM4 pro and connected devices with family members through an invite and join function.

Maintenance

  • Keep the device clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
  • Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight.
  • Ensure proper ventilation around the device to prevent overheating.
  • Regularly check for app updates to ensure optimal performance and access to new features.

Troubleshooting

1. Wi-Fi Connection Issues

  • 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi Only: The RM4 pro only supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Ensure your router is configured to broadcast a 2.4 GHz network, and your phone is connected to it during setup. It does not work with 5 GHz Wi-Fi or mesh routers that do not allow band separation.
  • Router Settings: Some routers with 'Smart Connect' or similar features may automatically switch devices between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Temporarily disable 5 GHz or create a separate SSID for 2.4 GHz during setup if you face issues.
  • Network Name/Password: Avoid special characters in your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) or password, as this can sometimes cause connectivity problems.
  • Signal Strength: Ensure the RM4 pro is placed within good range of your Wi-Fi router.
  • Reset Device: If connection fails, try resetting the device as described in the Setup section.

2. Device Control Issues (IR/RF)

  • Line of Sight (IR): For IR-controlled devices, ensure there is a clear line of sight between the RM4 pro and the appliance.
  • RF Rolling Code: The RM4 pro does not support RF Rolling Code control. Verify your RF device uses a fixed code (e.g., 433MHz fixed code). If your original remote needs to be paired for first use, it is likely a rolling code.
  • Learning Process: If manual learning fails, ensure you are holding the original remote close enough to the RM4 pro and pressing the buttons correctly during the learning process.

3. Voice Control Not Working

  • Account Linking: Ensure your BroadLink account is correctly linked to your Alexa or Google Assistant app.
  • Device Naming: Use simple, clear names for your devices in the BroadLink app for better voice recognition.
  • Skill/Service Enabled: Verify that the 'BroadLink' skill/service is enabled in your voice assistant app.
