1. Introduction

The Garmin Striker Vivid 5cv is a 5-inch color fishfinder designed to assist in locating fish and underwater structures. This device incorporates high-contrast color palettes for enhanced visibility and supports Garmin CHIRP traditional sonar and CHIRP ClearVü scanning sonar. It features high-sensitivity GPS for waypoint marking, route planning, and speed display. Additionally, it includes Quickdraw Contours software for creating and saving custom maps with 1-foot contours.

2. What's in the Box

3. Setup and Installation

3.1 Mounting the Device

The STRIKER Vivid 5cv unit can be mounted using the included tilt/swivel mount. Select a location that provides clear visibility and easy access to controls, ensuring it is secure and stable. The mount allows for adjustment of the viewing angle.

3.2 Transducer Installation

The GT20-TM transducer is designed for transom or trolling motor mounting. Follow the specific instructions provided in the transducer installation guide for optimal performance. Ensure the transducer is positioned correctly to avoid interference and achieve accurate sonar readings.

3.3 Power and Data Connection

Connect the power/data cable to the corresponding ports on the back of the STRIKER Vivid 5cv unit. Ensure a secure connection to a 12V DC power source. The power/data cable also facilitates communication between the unit and other compatible devices if applicable.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Powering On/Off

To power on the device, press and hold the power button until the screen illuminates. To power off, press and hold the power button again until the shutdown prompt appears, then confirm.

4.2 Sonar Functionality

The STRIKER Vivid 5cv supports two primary sonar types:

  • Garmin CHIRP Traditional Sonar: Provides clear target separation and definition.
  • CHIRP ClearVü Scanning Sonar: Offers a photographic view of fish and structure below the boat.

Navigate through the sonar views using the unit's buttons to select your preferred display. Adjust gain, range, and frequency settings as needed for optimal performance in varying water conditions.

4.3 GPS and Navigation

The integrated high-sensitivity GPS allows you to:

  • Mark Waypoints: Save specific locations (e.g., fishing spots, hazards) for future reference.
  • Create Routes: Plan navigation paths between multiple waypoints.
  • View Boat Speed: Monitor your vessel's speed directly on the display.

4.4 Quickdraw Contours

The built-in Quickdraw Contours software allows you to create personalized fishing maps with 1-foot contours as you navigate. These maps can be saved and are useful for identifying changes in depth and bottom structure.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning the Unit

Clean the device screen and exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the display and casing. For stubborn dirt, a mild soap solution can be used, followed by rinsing with fresh water and drying.

5.2 Transducer Care

Regularly inspect the transducer for marine growth or damage. Clean the transducer face with a soft cloth and mild soap. Ensure no debris obstructs the transducer's signal. If the transducer is mounted on a trolling motor, check for proper alignment.

5.3 Storage

When storing the device for extended periods, disconnect it from power and store it in a dry environment, away from extreme temperatures. Protect the screen from scratches. If storing the boat, ensure the transducer is not exposed to freezing temperatures if water is present.
