1.1 General Safety Information

Always prioritize safety. Familiarize yourself with all controls and safety decals before operating the machine. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including eye protection, hearing protection, and sturdy footwear. Keep bystanders, especially children and pets, away from the operating area.

2. Setup and Assembly

2.1 Unpacking

Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect for any shipping damage. Retain packaging materials until you are satisfied with the product.

2.2 Handlebar Assembly

Attach the handlebar assembly to the main unit using the provided hardware. Ensure all bolts are securely tightened. Refer to the assembly diagrams in the separate assembly guide for detailed steps.

2.3 Fuel and Oil

The ST4262P is equipped with a 4-stroke engine. It requires unleaded gasoline and separate engine oil. Do not mix oil with gasoline.

  • Engine Oil: Fill the engine crankcase with the recommended 4-stroke engine oil (e.g., SAE 5W-30 or 10W-30, depending on ambient temperature). Check the oil level using the dipstick; do not overfill.
  • Fuel: Fill the fuel tank with fresh, unleaded gasoline. Avoid spilling fuel. Always refuel in a well-ventilated area with the engine off and cool.

2.4 Initial Checks

  • Verify tire pressure for optimal traction.
  • Ensure all control levers and cables operate smoothly.
  • Check that the auger and impeller are free of obstructions.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Starting the Engine

The ST4262P features a 220V electric start for convenience, in addition to a recoil starter.

  1. Ensure the fuel valve is open and the ignition key is inserted.
  2. Set the choke lever to the 'FULL CHOKE' position for a cold engine.
  3. Connect the power cord to the electric start port and a 220V outlet.
  4. Press and hold the electric start button until the engine starts.
  5. Once the engine starts, disconnect the power cord and gradually move the choke lever to the 'RUN' position as the engine warms up.
  6. Alternatively, use the recoil starter by pulling the starter rope firmly.

3.2 Controls

  • Drive Lever: Engages the wheel drive. The snow blower has 6 forward speeds and 2 reverse speeds. Select the appropriate speed based on snow conditions.
  • Auger Engagement Lever: Engages the auger and impeller to clear snow.
  • Chute Rotation Control: Adjusts the direction of snow discharge. This can be adjusted directly from the control panel.
  • Deflector Tilt Control: Adjusts the height and distance of snow discharge. This can also be adjusted from the control panel.

3.3 Snow Clearing Techniques

Operate the snow blower at a steady pace. For deep or heavy snow, take narrower passes. Overloading the machine can reduce performance and cause damage. Always direct discharged snow away from people, windows, and vehicles.

4. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Stiga ST4262P snow blower. Always turn off the engine, remove the ignition key, and disconnect the spark plug wire before performing any maintenance.

4.1 After Each Use

  • Clean snow and ice from the auger housing, chute, and engine.
  • Inspect shear pins for damage and replace if necessary.
  • Check for loose fasteners and tighten as needed.

4.2 Seasonal Maintenance

  • Engine Oil Change: Change the engine oil after the first 5 hours of operation, then every 25-50 hours or annually.
  • Spark Plug: Inspect and clean the spark plug annually. Replace if worn or fouled.
  • Belts: Inspect drive and auger belts for wear or damage. Replace if necessary.
  • Skid Shoes: Check skid shoes for wear and adjust or replace to maintain proper clearing height.

4.3 Storage

Before storing the snow blower for an extended period:

  • Drain the fuel tank or add a fuel stabilizer. Run the engine until it stops to consume all fuel in the carburetor.
  • Clean the entire machine thoroughly.
  • Change the engine oil.
  • Store in a clean, dry area, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
