Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for proper installation of your CLEAR CL-BC100-TE rear view camera. Refer to your car navigation system's manual for specific connection details.

  1. Install the Camera:
    • Confirm the mounting position and secure the camera with screws. Ensure the license plate number is not obscured.
    • Clean the mounting surface thoroughly with a cleaner cloth to remove any oil film, wax, or dust.
    • After mounting, adjust the camera angle for optimal view.
  2. Connect the Power Cable to 12V Power:
    • Connect the red cord of the power cable to a +12V power source that activates when the reverse lamp is engaged (e.g., backup lamp).
    • Route the black terminal of the power cable to the rear view camera and connect it to the red terminal of the camera cable.
    • Guideline Display: The camera cable contains a green wire. To enable guidelines, cut this green wire with scissors. (Default: No guidelines).
    • Image Orientation: The camera cable contains a white wire. To set the image to mirror view (for rear view camera use), cut this white wire with scissors. (Default: Mirror image).
    • Note: The power wiring of the camera body is thin. Reliable connection with solder or crimp terminals is recommended.
  3. Connect the Video Cable:
    • Route the yellow terminal video cable from the car navigation system to the rear view camera and connect it to the yellow terminal of the camera cable.
    • Note: Pull the video cord carefully to prevent rainwater intrusion. Route the cord with enough slack to avoid tension when opening and closing doors.
  4. Connect Camera Adapter to Car Navigation:
    • Insert the camera connection adapter into the appropriate connector on the back of your car navigation system.
    • Note: Connection positions vary by car navigation manufacturer and model. Refer to your car navigation system's installation manual for specific details.
  5. Connect Ground Cable:
    • Connect the black ground cord of the power cable securely to the vehicle body.
  6. Perform Operation Check:
    • After completing all installation steps, always perform a thorough operation check to ensure the camera functions correctly. If any issues arise, refer to the Troubleshooting section.

Operating Instructions

Once installed, the CLEAR CL-BC100-TE rear view camera operates automatically when the vehicle is shifted into reverse gear, displaying the rear view on your compatible car navigation screen.

  • Automatic Activation: The camera automatically activates and displays the rear view when the vehicle is put into reverse.
  • Adjustable Angle: The camera's angle can be adjusted by 120 degrees to achieve the desired field of view.
  • Guidelines: If the green wire was cut during installation, parking guidelines will be displayed on the screen to assist with parking maneuvers.
  • Mirror Image: If the white wire was cut during installation, the image will be displayed as a mirror image, which is standard for rear view cameras.

Maintenance

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your rear view camera, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:

  • Clean the Lens: Regularly clean the camera lens with a soft, damp cloth to remove dirt, dust, or water spots that may obscure the view. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Check Connections: Periodically inspect all cable connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.
  • Avoid High-Pressure Washing: When washing your vehicle, avoid directing high-pressure water jets directly at the camera to prevent water ingress.
  • Environmental Protection: The camera is designed to be waterproof and dustproof, but extreme conditions should still be avoided where possible.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your CLEAR CL-BC100-TE rear view camera, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

Problem: Screen switches to camera view in reverse, but no image is displayed.

Possible Causes & Solutions:

  • Poor Power Connection: This is the most common cause. Ensure the camera's power wiring is securely connected, preferably with solder or crimp terminals, as the wiring is thin.
  • Incorrect 12V Power Source: Verify that the camera's red power cord is reliably connected to a +12V source that activates specifically when reverse (R) is engaged (e.g., reverse lamp).
  • Loose Video Cable/Adapter: Check that the video cable and any conversion adapters are fully and securely inserted. Reinforce connections with electrical tape if necessary to prevent them from coming loose during installation or use.

Problem: Navigation screen does not switch to camera view when in reverse.

Possible Causes & Solutions:

  • Car Navigation Settings: The rear view camera settings on your car navigation system may not be configured correctly.
  • Unconnected Reverse Signal Line: The reverse signal line on the car navigation system might not be connected. For Toyota Genuine Dealer Option Navigation Systems, special operations may be required to access and configure adapter menu settings. Consult your car dealer if you find these settings difficult to configure. For other aftermarket navigation systems, check the unit's rear view camera settings.
  • Note: The reverse signal line should typically be connected to a +12V power source that activates when reverse (R) is engaged, such as the reverse lamp. Some car navigation models allow checking connection status in their information menus.

Problem: What is the red wire on the video cable for?

Explanation: This red wire is used to pull power for the rear view camera from the video cable to the camera body. If you are securing power from the rear of the vehicle directly, this connection is not necessary. In such cases, please insulate the red wire with electrical tape or similar to prevent short circuits.

Problem: Image is unclear or screen flickers.

Possible Causes & Solutions:

  • Dirty Lens: The camera lens may have mud or dust on it. Clean the lens gently.
  • Lighting Conditions: The camera may be pointing at a location illuminated by fluorescent lights or other artificial light sources that can cause flickering.
