1. Setup

This section guides you through the initial setup of your Kurzweil KP-30 Portable Arranger.

1.1 Power Supply

The KP-30 can be powered using either the included AC adapter or batteries.

  • AC Adapter: Connect the provided AC adapter to the DC IN jack on the rear panel of the KP-30. Plug the other end into a standard wall outlet.
  • Batteries: Open the battery compartment on the bottom of the unit. Insert six 'AA' size batteries, ensuring correct polarity. Close the compartment securely.

1.2 Initial Connections

Before powering on, consider connecting headphones or external speakers.

  • Headphones: For private practice, connect standard stereo headphones to the 3.5mm HEADPHONE jack.
  • External Speakers: To amplify the sound, connect the LINE OUT jack to an external amplifier or powered speakers.

Once power is connected and any desired audio output devices are attached, press the POWER button to turn on the unit.

2.1 Controls Overview

The KP-30 features 132 built-in sounds and 32-voice polyphony.

  • Press the VOICE button to enter Voice selection mode.
  • Use the numeric keypad or the +/- buttons to select a desired instrument sound. The selected voice number and name will appear on the LCD display.
  • You can save up to 5 favorite sounds using the M.PAD1-5 buttons for quick recall.

2.3 Auto-Accompaniment

Engage the Auto-Accompaniment feature with 100 patterns to play along with a virtual band.

  • Press the STYLE button to enter Style selection mode.
  • Use the numeric keypad or the +/- buttons to select an accompaniment style.
  • Press START/STOP to begin the accompaniment.
  • Play chords in the lower section of the keyboard to control the accompaniment's harmony.
  • Use the FILL button to insert a drum fill during playback.

2.4 Lesson Mode

Improve your playing skills with the integrated Lesson Mode.

  • Press the LESSON button to activate Lesson Mode.
  • Follow the instructions on the LCD display to practice built-in songs or exercises.

2.5 Recording

Capture your musical ideas using the built-in MIDI recorder.

  • Press the RECORD button to start recording. The record indicator will light up.
  • Play your performance on the keyboard.
  • Press PLAY to stop recording and listen to your recorded track.

2.6 MIDI Connectivity

The KP-30 supports MIDI connectivity for integration with other devices.

  • Connect the KP-30 to a computer or other MIDI device using a USB Type A cable.
  • The KP-30 can function as a MIDI controller or receive MIDI data from external sources. Refer to your software's manual for specific MIDI setup instructions.

3. Maintenance

Proper care ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your KP-30.

3.1 Cleaning

  • Wipe the surface of the instrument with a soft, dry cloth.
