Introduction
This instruction manual provides essential information for the proper installation, maintenance, and understanding of your Newparts FCS Front & Rear Suspension Struts and Front Coil Springs Kit. This kit is specifically designed for Grand Prix models equipped with 17-inch wheels. Please read this manual thoroughly before beginning any installation or maintenance procedures.
For optimal performance and safety, professional installation is recommended. Always refer to your vehicle's specific service manual for detailed procedures and torque specifications.
Safety Information
- Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses and gloves, when working on vehicle suspension components.
- Ensure the vehicle is securely supported on jack stands on a level surface before beginning any work. Never rely solely on a jack.
- Use proper tools for all procedures.
- Compressed coil springs can be dangerous. If disassembling strut assemblies, use a certified spring compressor tool and follow its instructions carefully. This kit includes pre-assembled struts, reducing the need for spring compression for front struts.
- Keep hands and clothing clear of moving parts.
- Dispose of old parts and fluids responsibly according to local regulations.
Kit Contents
The Newparts FCS Front & Rear Suspension Struts & Front Coil Springs Kit typically includes the following components:
- 2 x Front Complete Strut Assemblies (with coil springs, strut mounts, and boots)
- 2 x Rear Strut Assemblies (without coil springs, as rear typically uses separate springs)

This image displays the complete Newparts FCS suspension kit. On the left are two front complete strut assemblies, which include the coil spring, strut, and mount. On the right are two rear strut assemblies, which consist of the strut body without a coil spring, as rear springs are typically separate components on compatible vehicles.
Installation Guide
General Preparation
- Park the vehicle on a level, firm surface.
- Engage the parking brake.
- Loosen the lug nuts on the wheels to be removed.
- Jack up the vehicle and support it securely with jack stands.
- Remove the wheels.
Front Strut Installation
- Locate and disconnect any brake lines, ABS sensor wires, or sway bar links attached to the old strut assembly.
- Remove the two lower bolts connecting the strut to the steering knuckle.
- Under the hood, remove the nuts securing the top of the strut mount to the vehicle's chassis.
- Carefully remove the old strut assembly from the vehicle.
- Install the new FCS complete front strut assembly by aligning the top studs with the holes in the chassis and securing with the new nuts (if provided) or original nuts. Do not fully tighten yet.
- Align the lower strut mounting holes with the steering knuckle and insert the bolts. Do not fully tighten yet.
- Reconnect any brake lines, ABS sensor wires, and sway bar links.
- Once the vehicle is on the ground and suspension is loaded, fully tighten all mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
Rear Strut Installation
- Locate and disconnect any brake lines or ABS sensor wires attached to the old strut.
- Remove the lower bolt connecting the strut to the control arm or axle.
- Inside the trunk or under the rear seat, locate and remove the nuts securing the top of the strut mount.
- Carefully remove the old rear strut assembly.
- Install the new FCS rear strut assembly, aligning the top studs and securing with nuts. Do not fully tighten yet.
- Align the lower strut mounting hole and insert the bolt. Do not fully tighten yet.
- Reconnect any brake lines or ABS sensor wires.
- Once the vehicle is on the ground and suspension is loaded, fully tighten all mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
Important: After installation, it is highly recommended to have a professional wheel alignment performed to ensure proper vehicle handling and tire wear.
Maintenance
Suspension components generally require minimal routine maintenance beyond regular inspection. However, periodic checks can extend their lifespan and ensure continued safe operation.
- Visual Inspection: Annually or during routine service, inspect struts and springs for signs of damage, leaks (from struts), corrosion, or worn bushings.
- Mounting Hardware: Periodically check all mounting bolts and nuts for proper tightness. Re-torque if necessary according to vehicle manufacturer specifications.
- Cleanliness: Keep suspension components free from excessive dirt, salt, and debris, which can accelerate corrosion.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
| Symptom | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Excessive Bouncing or Swaying | Worn or damaged struts. | Inspect struts for leaks or damage. Replace if necessary. |
| Clunking or Rattling Noise | Loose mounting hardware, worn strut mounts, or damaged sway bar links. | Check all bolts for tightness. Inspect strut mounts and sway bar links for wear and replace as needed. |
| Uneven Tire Wear | Improper wheel alignment, worn suspension components. | Perform a wheel alignment. Inspect other suspension components for wear. |
| Vehicle Sits Unevenly | Damaged or fatigued coil spring. | Inspect coil springs for breaks or sagging. Replace the affected spring. |
If you experience persistent issues, consult a qualified automotive technician.
