Tecsun PL990 Digital Worldband Radio

Model: PL990

1. Introduction

The Tecsun PL990 is a versatile digital portable receiver offering comprehensive radio frequency coverage. It supports AM, FM, longwave, shortwave, and single side band (SSB) reception. Beyond its radio capabilities, it features an integrated MP3 player with micro-SD input, compatible with various audio formats including FLAC, WAV, APE, WMA, and MP3.

Designed for enhanced reception, the PL990 incorporates analog high-IF AM circuitry, triple conversion IF, and modern DSP digital demodulation technology, alongside synchronized detection. This combination ensures superior sensitivity, selectivity, and anti-image interference performance across all bands.

The unit is equipped with a premium full-range 4 ohms / 3 watts speaker and a built-in class AB amplifier, delivering clear, rich, and distortion-free audio. For private listening, a 3.5 mm stereo earphone jack is provided, and stereo earphones are included.

2.2 Initial Charging

Before first use, it is recommended to fully charge the battery. Connect the provided USB cable to the radio's USB-C port and the other end to a compatible USB power adapter (included) or a computer USB port. The charging indicator will illuminate.

2.3 Antenna Setup

For optimal reception, especially on FM and Shortwave bands, extend the telescopic antenna fully. For Longwave and AM (Medium Wave) reception, the internal ferrite bar antenna is primarily used, but extending the telescopic antenna can sometimes improve reception. The radio also features an external antenna input for connecting a dedicated external antenna (e.g., long wire antenna, often included).

To clean the radio, use a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, slightly dampen the cloth with water or a mild cleaning solution. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or strong chemicals, as these can damage the radio's finish and components.

4.2 Battery Care

To prolong battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently. If the radio will not be used for an extended period, it is advisable to remove the battery to prevent leakage and damage. Store the battery in a cool, dry place.

4.3 Storage

Store the Tecsun PL990 in a cool, dry environment, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity. When storing, ensure the antenna is retracted and the unit is turned off. The included leather case provides protection during storage and transport.
