Getting Started

Battery Installation

The device requires three AAA batteries. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the unit. Open the cover, insert the batteries according to the polarity markings (+/-), and securely close the cover.

Power On/Off

Press the red power button (marked with a circle and vertical line) located on the front of the device to turn the unit on or off.

Operation Instructions

Auto-Calibration

Before each use, or when switching detection modes, place the scanner flat against the wall in an area known to be free of objects. The device will automatically calibrate. Wait for the calibration process to complete before moving the scanner. This ensures accurate readings.

Selecting a Detection Mode

The ACEGMET WD09 offers four distinct scanning modes. Press the mode selection button (typically depicted with icons representing wood, AC, and metal) to cycle through the available modes:

  • Wood Scan: Detects wood studs up to 20mm (0.8 inches) deep.
  • AC Scan: Detects live AC wires up to 50mm (2.0 inches) deep.
  • Non-magnetic Metal Scan: Detects non-magnetic metals up to 50mm (2.0 inches) deep.
  • Magnetic Metal Scan: Detects magnetic metals (e.g., rebar) up to 80mm (3.2 inches) deep.

Scanning Technique

Place the scanner flat against the wall surface. Slowly slide the device horizontally across the area you wish to scan. Maintain constant contact and even pressure throughout the scanning process.

Interpreting Results: LCD Display and Indicators

The LCD screen provides visual feedback, including the detected object type, signal strength, and approximate distance. The device also uses a three-color indicator light system and an audible alarm.

  • Green Light: Indicates that no object has been detected in the sensing area.
  • Yellow Light: Indicates that an object is detected and you are gradually approaching it.
  • Red Light: Indicates you are very close to or directly over the object. The screen will display "CENTER" when the object's center is located.

An audible alarm will also sound, changing in pitch or frequency as you get closer to the detected object, providing additional feedback.

The first shows "Metal detected nearby" with a yellow indicator, the second shows "Determine the location" with "CENTER" on the screen and a red indicator, and the third shows "Metal detected nearby" again with a yellow indicator as the scanner moves past the center.

Care and Maintenance

  • Keep the device clean and dry. Wipe the exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Store the scanner in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Remove the batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period to prevent potential battery leakage.
  • While the device is rated IP65 for water and dust resistance, it is not designed for submersion in water.

Troubleshooting

  • Inaccurate Readings: Ensure proper auto-calibration by placing the device flat on the wall in an object-free area before scanning. Avoid scanning over wet paint, wallpaper, or highly textured surfaces that may interfere with detection.
  • No Power: Check battery installation and replace with fresh AAA batteries if needed. Ensure the power button is pressed firmly.
  • Intermittent Detection: Ensure constant, firm contact with the wall surface. Scan slowly and consistently. Rapid movements can lead to missed detections or inaccurate readings.
